Yea, experimenting doesnt have to be a huge commitment. A low stakes comic could be enough to mess around with every now and again

All that being said, maybe I'm just totally off-base because I'm a stranger on the internet, so feel free to disregard and have a nice day. I hope you find what you are looking for to take your art to the next level :)

But it was fun. It took a long time but you do things more and it takes less long as you learn. And it helped me figure out more about what I want to get out of doing art stylistically, even if that was mostly through ruling out certain ideas or techniques.

Basically, what if you just played around more with the art?
I tried drastically departing from my style with something different and it was definitely jank. Texturing fur, having weirdo colors, having a more detailed background...it ended up a little odd and maybe even stiff...

Putting these styles together is not inherently bad or wrong. My gut says maybe you feel conflicted over this though. What if you experimented with more colors for your characters in a natural setting, or turned your casual settings into something with wilder proportions?...

You have very cool background work especially with nature. It's a more painted style, and when there are manmade objects, you reference them closely with th real object.
The characters you draw are highly stylized and more cartoony. There's often more blocks of single solid colors for the bodies.

...does an improvement in technique or anatomy or perspective or all those things make a style feel cohesive? Only in a limited sense. Sometimes technical ability and stylization become strangers over time. Sometimes money exacerbates this because we don't stop to reevaluate if this is happening...

I have some thoughts and if they are too forward (unsolicited thoughts can be annoying) then I apologize. I'm speaking partly from my own perspective of being someone unhappy with his art.
I've seen your art around for a while and there's a lot of things that have improved. So...

That's the great part about art. Just draw yourself being cool and beating someone up and then you're cool again
