'Self' is an English word with cognates across the Germanic languages: Danish selv, Dutch zelf, German selbst, Swedish själv, and silba in Gothic. Beyond Germanic, its origin is uncertain, but intriguingly "sselboi-sselboi" ('for himself') turns up in the ancient Venetic language of northern Italy.

Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong chronic illness. It cannot be cured, now or in the future. Insulin keeps us alive. It costs around $2 to make a vial of insulin that’s then priced at hundreds of dollars bc we die w/o it. It’s fucking immoral & inhumane. Insulin should be free.

From last week on the Thames Foreshore, a Victorian-era button belonging to E. Grove, based at 37-41 Lower Marsh, Lambeth. Edward Grove was a Merchant Taylor selling everything from complete outfits for the Victorian Gent-About-Town to clothing for the working man. Always a joy to find one of these.
