This is the first render using my new shading to try to closer replicate #MNOG style in 3D. If I move the light behind them in this shot they look like this... gotta love some backlighting! #blender #bionicle #Turaga #toa #matanui #lego #lowpoly #b3d #npr #blender3d #art #3dart #bnpr #stylized

Also I don’t know if you saw but I’ve been working on improving the shading to get it closer to a MNOG style in 3D. Especially how MNOG deals with light, dark and gradients bsky.app/profile/fire...

I’m almost done with the Turaga now too, so will be doing some fun Rahi that appear in MNOG soon.

Yeah the upper grooves are my inspiration from the set but the set mask also has some other stuff I decided to not include but I kept the lower two grooves as they’re often drawn in during MNOG.

The set Ruru is quite small and "slanted" while the MNOG version is a bit bigger and seems straighter. So I tried to take the best of both and do my own thing with it. Same with the Pakari too.

I've actually noticed a lot of eyes being weirdly colored or just "default yellow" I'll try to make an effort to fix them where I notice these discrepancies going forward. I did it for Tahu already who has Yellow Eyes in a lot of his MNOG sprites but in closeup they're redish pink.

Thanks, it’s a slightly different approach but I think this sells the effect more
comment in response to post
I think it achieves the MNOG but in 3D style a bit closer than what I had before which was pretty much a generic 'toon shading' setup.

And here's 2 quick comparison still images too #bionicle #MNOG #vakama #shader #matanui #lego #lowpoly #b3d #npr #blender3d #promosky #bionicles #3dart

I’d almost want to try to above described game as “part 1” with the second half of the game being about the bohrok and such. Incorporate some stories from the animations that followed MNOG. In terms of story.

Could be 6 levels (one for each Toa) where it’s a linear narrative to get one mask and they collect the rest “off screen” Trouble is when you get to the final level were all the Toa come together with their gold masks and go to fight Makuta would be tricky to pull off (unless you just choose one?

Correction... 22 Matoran... I added a few just before I posted this.

Done! (Will show in a post soon)

Kotu is a great one thanks! I’ll get her added. For some reason I remember Hali being spelt that way until the name change/matoran rebuilt ceremony but I guess not? Also you talked about Kotu reminded me of Amaya as well.

Ahkmou and Hali are next actually 😀

I'm sure they do, Makuta.

Thanks, I've been thinking a lot about how the Toa's Tools could be compacted and stored when the Toa aren't using them... and then expanding when in use.
comment in response to post
I've added the ability to do some aspect of animation like that to most of the Toa's tools. Gali's hooks can retract in, Tahu's flame sword can be ignited or un-ignited, Lewa's axe can be stowed in a compacted state, Kopaka's shield can collapse and expand. Onua's claws have finger like posability
comment in response to post
If you want to see a more polished Toa animation in this style check out the one I did for Lewa the other day bsky.app/profile/fire...
comment in response to post
The goal with this test was to check how unsheathing a sword from a Toa's back would look & how animating elements of the Toa's Tools could look like the shield expanding. The animation is super rough & choppy but as I'm moving onto the Matoran at the moment I thought I'd share this for folks today
comment in response to post
Thanks, that was the goal. More to come and more plans to build out more of Mata Nui to have scenes with them in.

Thanks, they’re all pretty low poly, around the tri-counts of GameCube/PS2 era I’d say. I’m working on more at the moment too.

All I can hear looking at this is Jaller from the movie saying “Taaakkkuuaaaaa???” over and over. Awesome art btw 😍
