Programs focused on increasing the diversity of the scientific workforce are imperiled. Ten trainees funded by these programs spoke with The Transmitter about what the uncertainty of the past few weeks has meant for them, their research and their futures. www.thetransmitter.org/funding/a-gu...

Are there any lists of which labs are hiring postbacs this year? With the IRTA program down, there are many more undergrads looking for positions! 🧪 🧠 #science #neuroscience #psychology

Graduating during the pandemic slowed down my process and is part of why I did two postdocs. Now as a first year faculty, all the federal grants are frozen. I love the work I do but this has all of us questioning how much www.science.org/content/arti...

Another loss for #science & the next generation of researchers. The 28-year running NIDA summer internship program is cancelled for this year. @altnih4science.bsky.social #SavetheNIH

The Trump administration's efforts to slash research funding have US graduate students, postdocs and other early-career scientists fearing for their careers. Some might leave the country -- or abandon research altogether. https://go.nature.com/43ao2zq

Almost all grant-review meetings remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health, preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget. https://go.nature.com/418B5Pm

Once again, these include a host of individual and institutional training grants that broaden participation in biomedical research: IMSD, MARC, U-RISE, G-RISE, Bridges to Doctorates, MOSAIC, etc. This strategy is nefarious and in direct conflict with the recent injunction against Trump anti-DEI EOs

Troubling: Congresspeople say they are NOT hearing from academics, or university administrators. PLEASE SPEAK UP! Oppose these budget cuts to research, health, student loans! www.votervoice.net/APAAdvocacy/... Tell others to do the same!

Almost all grant-review meetings under Trump 2.0 remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget. https://go.nature.com/4gM6oW4

NEW: The Trump administration is exploiting a loophole to keep funding frozen at the NIH - a move that some legal scholars say is illegal. Federal Register notices are blocked, so no grant-review sessions can be scheduled. All the gritty details here, and a short 🧵: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I think the plot has been lost a little on what DEI is and how it’s implemented. I wrote a piece about why DEI matters and how it actually allows meritocracy to thrive. neuwritesd.org/2025/02/20/m...

In a special edition of her “How to teach this paper” column, Ashley Juavinett @analog-ashley.bsky.social explains how to best educate students about how the business of scientific research actually works. www.thetransmitter.org/how-to-teach... #neuroskyence

Just saw an email sent to a student of mine from a REU canceling their program due to staffing & federal research funding uncertainties. A REU was when I internalized my science ID & applying to grad school. If this continues, it will devastate my students #1 pathway to STEM careers.

Pretty sad. Just got the email that CZI is canceling the second round of Diversity Leadership Awards. Private industry will definitely not fill the hole that NIH and NSF are leaving. 😢💔

Well that was a waste of time... @chanzuckerberg.bsky.social

A large portion of grants awarded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health cannot be funded for the foreseeable future because of an indefinite hold on submissions to the Federal Register, according to an email reviewed by The Transmitter. By @avaskham.bsky.social bit.ly/3X8ngz8

I was hoping that my first bsky post would be more cheerful. I recently joined NIH (NIEHS) as a PO. I fought hard for this position and was so excited to support health science from a new vantage point… I picked up my life and moved to NC. Unfortunately, my time at NIEHS was short lived.

What if we all got together and crowdfunded science communication from folks who just lost their jobs/funding? Like patreon, $1/month to sponsor each scicommer and we compile all the folks participating, gathering hundreds of amazing scientists and admins to speak out on why their work matters

I am recruiting for postdoctoral and technician positions at UCSD. If anyone with relevant skills/interests has lost funding due to the anti-DEI jihad or the NIH purge, I’m open to discussion of ways we can try to help out.

NIH + NSF scientists affected by today's layoffs: C&EN is working on understanding what expertise the government lost today. Give me a ring? (Signal: Laurel_Oldach.07)

Dear federal scientists: If you have been affected by the probationary firings and would be willing to speak with Science, please reach out to me by email ([email protected]) or on Signal. We can guarantee annonymity.

Shared some of my recent experiences and thoughts with @callimcflurry.bsky.social of @thetransmitter.bsky.social. In these chaotic times, it’s important that there’s an ability for voices to be heard. I’m very thankful to Calli and The Transmitter for the opportunity.

Over the past few weeks, science funding in the U.S. has become shrouded in uncertainty. Ten trainees with diversity-based funding share how the changes are affecting their research and career plans. By @avaskham.bsky.social @claudia-lopez.bsky.social @callimcflurry.bsky.social bit.ly/42Wifxr

It’s official. My university who told me for all of the years I have been a faculty person they it valued diversity all of a sudden decided it no longer does without even attempting to resist a legally questionable executive order. www.thedp.com/article/2025...
