Pretty sad. Just got the email that CZI is canceling the second round of Diversity Leadership Awards. Private industry will definitely not fill the hole that NIH and NSF are leaving. 😢💔

This actually makes sense because the awardee, along with her institute, will be carrying a huge target on her back in the next four years. No leadership will want to do this for their institute.
I assume they'll say it's because it's a NASEM partnership, pretending that they can't fill the funding/personnel gap of losing the NASEM partnership a thousand times over without noticing.
We are committed to supporting groundbreaking research that advances the frontiers of scientific knowledge... If it's by people already sufficiently privileged.
I’d love to be in a place when I too can “no thanks” research funds. But we all do what we can to make progress and uplift our trainees and communities.
I took it because I needed it as an assistant prof, but man, that email was a punch in the gut. I know several well deserved people who didn't get it the first time and were qualified, and several applying this time who I had high hopes for. So much good work is going to go unfunded.
I like, by which I mean, I love, how the first and second sentences of the second paragraph have absolutely nothing to do with each other, other than the second being incredibly self-serving window dressing.
This is extremely disappointing. Last week I attended a really good workshop from them on creating a joyful and equitable culture so I hoped they would keep this program going...I guess not.
