An autistic, nonverbal teenage boy who was shot repeatedly by Idaho police from the other side of a chain link fence while he was holding a knife died Saturday after being removed from life support, his family said.

Here are two straightforward and incontrovertible statements of law about Mahmoud Khalil: 1) Khalil is a political prisoner of the United States 2) Khallil is a "prisoner of conscience" as defined by Amnesty International We need to say these things, and the world needs to hear them

College Park now says that it has dismissed the warrant. And all it took was an experienced criminal defense attorney, a viral social media thread, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, and a whole bunch of news organizations calling them. Great system

The four law firms that it was announced are now Trump collaborators -- Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, Simpson Thacher, and A&O Shearman Sterling -- ALSO agreed today to "Disavow DEI" as part of a settlement with EEOC. Why would any new associate join such a place? Why would any partner stay?

2025 is year of the cowards, apparently People are afraid to leave X People are afraid to say no to Trump People are afraid to defend their own communities ... and on and on "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one..."

Seriously? Because we were told they were going to deport violent criminals.

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings. Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

I keep seeing “when you’re a foreign visitor or student, you follow the law and don’t complain” but this is neither here nor there. The US is abruptly and increasingly applying laws arbitrarily or weaponizing them to suppress civil rights and everyone should complain about it, foreigner or citizen.

So my client is a paraplegic. One day, a Fulton County police department asked him to come down and answer a few questions. A woman alleged that he KICKED her door down and assaulted her. And they were calling him down to arrest him, not talk to him.

“They were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness…and let other people clean up the mess they had made…” -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby (April 10, 1925).

Nobody will notice if you stop paying your taxes.

1) Do something autocratic 2) Wait to see how people react 3) If they don't push back hard enough, carry on 4) If they do push back hard enough, "pause" it 5) Illegally consolidate more power 6) Repeat

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

I wish there was some fancy economic term for when a person deliberately lowers the price of every single stock on the planet before then raising them all with a wave of their hand, in a manner you might say would grant immediate, near-infinite wealth to anyone informed of such plans beforehand.

Fascists lie all of the time. Just constantly.

Every word of this Jamelle. Now let’s ask why so many leaders in media, business and politics who should be sophisticated enough to see this, keep insisting that Trump is pursuing a “strategy”?

Wishing you and yours a very merry Confederate Surrender Day

As Mark says, don't read too much into the stay. But this is sort of it. If SCOTUS agrees the government can disappear you to a Salvadorian labor camp, and there's no legal recourse even if you're innocent because of Article II, then none of your other rights mean a damn thing.

This criminal administration has never hidden their goal of deporting tens of millions of people. That means the already thuggish ICE secret police are going to need a MASSIVE increase in their budget. History is on replay. This is going to end in mass murder.

this simple moral clarity from Fourth Circuit judge Stephanie Thacker in denying the government's request not to have to return someone it admits it deported to hell by mistake sets the only acceptable tone from every judge in every one of these cases forever

It seems a little insane that we're actually discussing whether or not a president can have you disappeared into a foreign prison camp where you will have no legal recourse.

“Orange Monday” is perfect LOL

calling trump “orange”? kinda cringe but whatever calling it “orange monday” thereby forcing future generations of economists to explain why its called that? absolutely hilarious

Just remembering how Joe Biden forgiving some student loans was taking the power of the presidency too far.

Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JP Morgan, has penned one of the most delusional reviews of the global landscape I can recall ever reading. The United States is the one doing the dismantling buddy, what in the sam hell are you talking about! www.jpmorganchase.com/content/dam/...

they are segregationists, it has been obvious from the jump, and i think that pundits who dismissed the charge as hyperbolic should explain why they couldn’t see the fact pattern

every person online who thinks the tariffs are a good idea are people who are trying to figure out how to take their first step as a huamn being

I think certain professionally online people are freaked out by the realization that they would wield marginal influence in any genuine popular front, and so they’d rather attempt to sabotage the formation of that front. I don’t rate their odds of success highly though.

Trump is not done attacking our elections. He and his supporters plot every day to undermine the right to vote. They are constantly looking for opportunities to exploit weaknesses in the election system. This is their top priority. The question for us is whether it is ours as well.

His mistake was taking the assignment to begin with rather than resigning. The wisest lawyer so far is SDNY's Hagan Scotten who said when resigning: “I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”
