The Civil Rights Movement (1954-'68) won, they defeated the segregationist American political establishment with, depending on how you count, anywhere from dozens to a few hundred deaths.
The Iraqi insurgency (2003-'11), by contrast, lost 25,000 insurgents losing to the same government. 7/

For Washington it was admitting to changing their racist team name before they decided on a new one. I also suppose if your city was famous enough (or you want to pretend it is) you'd do that? I personally like when they pick an animal so you can't be sure if someone is going to the zoo or a game

That's awesome! It's no Washington Football Team but it is a vast improvement over the old one π (And an actual name, not a placeholder)

If I ever doubted the appeal of Reality TV with no likeable characters arguing all of the time or monster movies, I never will again

Peak GWOT LARPing by people who expected gear to intimidate everyone, immediately ruined by a crowd refusing to be intimidated

After reviewing a decade of farm workplace fatalities, someone asked me what I learned. I answered, "stay off quad bikes, and stay away from cows".

Family moved together and my parents got an RV, with the plan of a little deck to ease getting in and out. Months pass. My Dad slipped on the RV stairs and I just went that day to the hardware store (with the air compressor still in my car from moving) and built a hand rail. Don't wait, be safe!

It's bizarre seeing the people once worried about this sort of thing basically shrug over concentration camps and government kidnapping since it's not against themselves.
"Birds aren't real! The government faked them to spy on us!"
"We use fake birds to spy on /those/ people."
"OH! Carry on, thenπ«‘"

"America, churning through its stockpiles of armor, are forced to push the M48 Patton MBT into a role as an infantry fighting vehicle and mobile artillery, asserting that they are not using it as a tank, as reactivated M60s fill that role. Infantry continue assaults in VW Bugs purchased from Mexico"

I tend to use the slide lock on garage doors, but making sure your expensive garage door opener won't break if you forget the door is latched is important.
That said, I absolutely agree that the door in the garage to inside the house should be treated as an exterior door

I like to imagine some at, like, Oshkosh, in between yelling about the effort spent on the JLTV program, busy designing an up-armor package for that dune buggy to throw at the Army the second someone in charges notices how silly it is.

I always assume these helmets are for tank crews and the like, but I'm always too afraid to check because I don't want to see another dumb bit of tech for infantry that would best benefit from more artillery or lighter body armor

There was an article about someone buying a house and "becoming house poor" because they couldn't just decide to vacation in Italy for a weekend anymore.
House poor is "sorry, guys, I have to cancel. Our water heater just went out."
Like kids, a house will just eat time and money beyond imagination

Seriously, most of the "car people" I know actually just grew up poor enough to need to do their own car repair (often learning on their first car, also being all they could afford).
A friend couldn't get work because not having a car meant she was "unreliable" even living within walking distance

I adore this book for going into specific technical detail of how id got Doom to work on PC, but I think my favorite part is going into exhausting detail of how each port of Doom was done. Because yeah, how do you make it run on SNES? PS1? Etc etc etc. It's incredible!
