There was some review of hospital injury/death cases, and ~holding things while walking on stairs~ causes super-dramatic risk. I recently had a close-call on my own stairs after hurting my foot, somehow I kept up with the misplaced feet to save myself. It sounds dumb but Jesus Christ.

But check doorways if the apt is in an older building; some of them (esp to bathrooms) aren't wide enough for wheelchairs, and door saddles can be surprisingly high.
My wife has something bordering on a long-running gag where she eats it not on the hike but within sight of the parking lot.

…and ‘surfed’ down the remaining stairs, slamming into the wall at the landing… with my left shoulder. Then crumpled to the floor.
I dislocated my shoulder again.
I’ve fallen a few times since then—on steep stairs with narrow treads.
