2/2 He was able to find a guy who could repair it...and not just repair it! He incorporated some of Stevie's flies in epoxy and antler into the handle! (He also made a priest for him.) I don't know this craftsman but he's really good and I'm happy my friend now has 2 nets!

Yes. Yes you do. You need them in 6 different colors down thru size 20. You can send the first 3 of each size and color for inspection. If they pass then you should tie more π¬π

Wow! They're one of the few trout species I haven't caught. Bucket list.

Way to go! That's a lot better than my first. Charlie Craven has a book "Basic Fly Tying" which is amazing. Very in depth, step by step. Each fly utilizes a specific skill and they build on each other.

Yeah... That's a good description! It's beautiful- a rugged kind of beauty, that I love. I do not love the heat.

I'm glad it healed well! And it's nice that when it's 105 in Las Cruces it's usually only 80-85 in Cloudcroft π

I don't know! I tie more than I fish. The closest "stream" to me is 1.5hrs. it's in the bottom of a nasty canyon so I don't go often or without a friend. The next closest is 3hrs. But, one day this fly will see the water!

I don't have much experience in salt. But I caught my first Tarpon on a purple and black one and first snook on an all white one. They're amazing.

2/2 I brushed out the dubbing to recreate the buggy look of hackle and added an underwing with purple EP fibers. I like it. I think it will fish well at last light

Ouch. I hope it healed correctly! I live about 90min from Cloudcroft. It's a pretty and unique place.

They're great books. I read this one after Christmas. Then read the 2nd in the series, Gray Ghost Murders, to my wife, (a couple of chapters at night.) She wasn't sure she wanted to read a book about fly fishing. I assured her it wasn't! She loved it. So now we are on the third-Dead Mans Fancy.

Thank you! I always overlook them when I tie. But a recent book I finished inspired me!

You have me contemplating trying to make some. It seems like a cool experience. But, since i have soooo much dubbing, I might need to wait! π€£

I love Hillerman. I live in NM so the series with Jim Chee stories are my favorite.

We have a very similar Quail species here- the Gambel's. I saw a covey this morning going out to my car.

Yes!! I use them a lot! And White Bonnie Braid (Macrame) combed out and colored make for great Baitfish material! (I do find those markers will bleed though on certain materials when wet- I've tried coloring mop flies and the color doesn't last long π)

This is wonderful! She did great! My daughter tied flies when she was little. She didn't want to tie any known patterns or follow recipes (which is fine.) She just wanted to tie pretty thingsπ
So, that's what we did! We had fun.
Enjoy that time. That's the important thing. They grow too fast.
