This is a depressing read. Can either of these “christian” men do something good with their dragons hoard of money? Maybe help the Texas orphans and single moms? Why do they think their god wants them to spend millions to defund public schools for the poorest and give that money to the richest?

Can y’all do a guide for voter registration for women if the SAVE bill goes through. Like what docs should women start requesting now (brith cert, marriage lic, etc). Will it be easier (but more $) to get a passport etc. It’d be nice to have a guide for women with links to Texas offices. 🙏

Great, my kids already have fundraisers for their schools where we beg our neighbors for money for sports & arts supplies. Their teachers have wishlists for luxuries like boxes of pencils & Kleenex. Maybe we can start walking into these private schools to “borrow” their supplies that we paid for.

Yet another way we are giving up soft power and goodwill towards the US.
And of course stomping on free speech.

Rep. González notched a rare Democratic win, 100 to 42, for an amendment directing the Department of Public Safety to conduct a study of religious leaders in Texas who have been “accused, investigated, charged or convicted of any offense involving the abuse of a child.”
🙌 a silver lining

How about we don’t do the voucher giveaway to the rich and give that money to the school districts for property tax relief.

And how much work are they putting into fixing the foster care system?
They live in hate and fear.

How many women have to die before the republicans start to worry they might not be re-elected? When we get to that number maybe this will pass.
I’m not hopeful, republicans still think AR guns are more important than our children.

Thank you!
It’s unbelievable that they’re trying to pour money into the voucher scheme now.

Wild story, I had no idea. They managed to make the lottery worse, it’s already a poor tax. But now folks can blow their entire paycheck without being slowed down by the hassle of going to the corner store. Tech bros are here to help you lose your money super fast, just like phone gambling apps.

When he gets out he can go to a state like Texas that doesn’t require background checks for church workers that are around children. Teachers, all school employees, coaches, volunteers, hospital workers & uber drivers must have a background check in Texas, but not the churches.

Fantastic, I’d love to see the graphs from the 2019 article updated to show the property value explosion of last 5 years. I get that we need to subsidize the rural areas, but cities have more poor students than rural ISDs. Also would be great to see if any more water park shenanigans are going on.

Great, thank you. Interesting that Abbott said they were going to fix recapture in 2019, but all he’s on about since is his voucher scheme.

Well at least trump didn’t fool her, he is those things. I can’t wrap my head around how many people that genuinely think they’re good christians voted for trump because their pastor told them to.

This is why they’re coming for our schools and libraries. Knowledge cracks their cult information control. It’d be really lame if it wasn’t so scary. I’m glad you made it out 🙌

Oof, hope in the horror flicks, good point though. I often slept on the floor by my mom’s door (terrified of being “left behind”). We couldn’t watch anything, not even Disney, because they funded other heathen things. The library saved me, it was a mile walk, & I learned about the real world there.

Have y’all seen the “thief in the night” movies from the 70’s? I was forced to watch them in church as a kid, the guillotine gave me night terrors. It’s like if your parents took you to a Freddy Kruger movie & told you it was 100% true. Pentecostals love the violent parts of the New Testament.

GOP quote on DEI “It divides us. It defines us by part of our history — not all of our history.”
Yet they erased huge parts of “all” of our history by deleting information on war hero veterans, but only the veterans of color. I guess they’re not as colorblind as they pretend to be.
Great article.

Geeze, two paragraphs of a nothing burger spawn a lawsuit? Paxton loves to flood the zone with BS.

It must be a crappy cult when you have to try to recruit children in public schools. The only thing I want to be “saved” from is these christian nationalists.
Excellent article by the TX tribune.

First, we can’t trust a word Paxton says, he should’ve been disbarred.
Second, damn, we’re already short OBGYNs. This going to continue to scare new docs away from Texas. What young female Dr would live here in her childbearing years? And what young male Dr would want that for his partner?

I’m so glad this post popped into my feed! We’re watching Twilight Zone with our middle schoolers. They’re fantastic! I wasn’t allowed to watch as a kid (religious parent), so they’re new for us all. We’re up to the Big Wish episode. Oof 💔 We always wait for the credits to see which ones Rod wrote 😁

Texas has the 2nd largest state economy (after CA). But our public schools are ranked 38th in the US. Texas spends 5k less per student than US average. Our teachers are paid 9k less than national average. How about we skip the voucher scam and just pay the teachers properly so we can retain them.

2.5-5 billion for a statewide water grid?! Those of us who researched & chose to live in the non desert areas will have our aquifers drained & our water sent to suburb McMansions to water huge lawns. Maybe we can invite some Saudis to buy our land and grow alfalfa for their horses too. (see Arizona)

He’s trying to tank the US economy. Then when all us poors go bankrupt and lose our jobs and houses, his private equity buddies will buy everything for pennies on the dollar. Stocks, housing, commercial buildings etc. He’s driving the US into a recession, possibly depression. I know I’m depressed.

It’s just to make it harder for women to vote. If our married names don’t match our birth certificate we get extra hoops to jump through. Ugh

Texas state law requires schools to do background checks on all teachers, volunteers, chaperones, classroom assistants, & coaches. Background checks are required for hospital volunteers.
Churches are not required to do any background checks. The last place I’d leave my child unattended is a church.

He is lying again. No one is paying 200%+ tariffs on dairy.
He’s tanking our economy and dragging the rest of the world down with us. Boycott the US. The only thing that will make him change is when his big business donors start complaining, and they are…
