Why on earth is this government releasing violent criminals early due to prison overcrowding, but then replacing them with a 77-year-old peaceful climate protester who is clearly no threat to the public?

During the Covid pandemic the government of the day, through their Everyone In scheme, managed to house the homeless. Is it just that these unfortunate individuals no longer pose a threat to the establishment?
