RIP Kurt Vonnegut. Gone 18 yrs. Dang.

I just discovered a somewhat big attack hitting Substack thanks to... "talking" to my logs database over my IDE using MCP and asking about strange patterns it saw about paid subscribers claiming promotion codes. Would have not necessarily found it if it wasn't so easy to "chat" with my logs / DB.

Members of Congress should never be allowed to trade stocks. Period.

It feels like a candidate for 2028 who "avoids attacking Trump" over something Trump unequivocally, unilaterally did do is not really a candidate at all

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

Inventing a new kind of atheism where you don't believe in god the way parents not believing in their children makes them depressed and self-defeating DM for deets

Fantastic

Zelensky: We have their documents, even credit cards. They are citizens of China. I believe the United States of America needs to pay more attention to what is happening today. #standwithukraine

"Orange Tuesday"

The Fourth Circuit is famously succinct. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

"CDs are an irrelevant technology." YES. Yes you're starting to get it. Look how stupid relevant technology is. You're so close to realizing that CDs are awesome

Finally, an excuse to be glad I cashed out my 401k last year to buy a pool. Now the only thing taking a dive around here is me!

Stock market crash so bad, it goes below the fold! Delightfully clever visual, as always, from the grey lady, @nytimes.com

Somewhere Pelosi and Schumer are muttering "if only we hadn't been so woke" when really people voted for Trump to blow up a world order fucking them over, and he's delivering. It's easy to say "this is worse," but you can't get much worse than "no one can afford rent." www.npr.org/2024/01/25/1...

Many law firms representing federal employees have come under attack. The legal community is pushing back. More than 4,000 legal professionals have signed an open letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, expressing concern over the administration’s actions against law firms.

I called my senators today and told them I want Cory Booker to be the senate minority leader. We can’t hold hearings. We don’t have subpoena power. We can’t pass budgets. But we CAN filibuster, and we CAN change party leadership.

Senator Booker is about to read The Unknown Soldier, and he's getting choked up. And so am I. This comes during a discussion about Trump and Musk GUTTING the Department of Veterans Affairs. He will break the Senate speech record in three hours and 20 minutes.

"In this piece, one is reminded of the Illiad, the classic story of a mass genocide so complete that for thousands of years people believed the victims never even existed, committed ostensibly for the love of a beautiful princess who was in another castle the entire time anyways" - Shen Comix Revue

Will Indianapolis residents to get FREE hotel stays at new Hilton Signia hotel? We hear Indy City Council and Mayor Joe Hogsett may decide to allow Indy residents suffering from our housing crisis to stay at the $625,000,000 hotel for free since it was financed by the city itself Bold action!

Cory Booker has taken the Senate floor and plans to filibuster as long as he’s physically able to protest the complete disregard for the rule of law by Trump and Musk. Watch here: www.c-span.org/event/us-sen...

we should abolish DHS entirely. redistribute the necessary parts to where they were pre-2003.

My middle child has been delightfully taken by Vonnegut's philosophy in Timequake, specifically: This is nice, isn't it? And: Can't wait to see what happens next. And now he's added Joan Didion to the mix: Everyday is all there is.

I personally think it would be silly for AOC to take a VP nomination. She's president material. VP's only rarely become president, and when they do it's viewed as a continuation of their predecessor's term.

Putin is clinging to power as rumors swirl that he’s dying. Zelensky says he will die soon. He made the blunt prediction during a speech in Paris, standing alongside Emmanuel Macron as he urged the West to “stay strong” and not ease pressure on Russia. www.the-sun.com/news/1388155...

Cannot shake the thought so I guess it bears repeating: I love this stupid country, and I hate these motherfuckers turning it into a hellscape.

multiple issues here: -it’s unamerican and unconstitutional for the federal govt—and certainly the executive on its own, arbitrarily and in secret—to create a speech code for visa holders -even if that was permissible, suddenly accosting her in the street and abducting her is wildly disproportionate

McMorrow: We can no longer accept what we’ve seen at the federal level—holding a press conference in front of the Capitol, telling people you’re fighting for them, and then following up with a text message that says, “I’m fighting for you, give me $5.”

This is fine. Everything's fine.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

hey I wrote a story about trying to remain functional as the country collapses, bad luxury SUVs, the contradictions of wealth, and quitting my job. if you wanna read it, it’s available here for free: www.patreon.com/posts/125140...

First they came for your due process rights, and you said nothing for you had not committed a crime. Then they came for your right to privacy, and you said nothing for you had nothing to hide. Then they came for your free speech rights, and you said nothing.
