The USPS provides its services to all Americans regardless of the actual cost to provide them. A postage stamp will get a letter delivered anywhere. Rural customers, who overwhelmingly voted for Trump, will be hurt the most if the USPS is privatized. It’ll base its charges on its costs.

When the doctor tells a patient that he must lose weight, he does not cut off his leg. He puts the patient on a diet. The same logic should apply to cutting government spending. It should be done with a scalpel and not a chainsaw. It even could be done through attrition.
