Thames Water just got court approval to pile on more debt—on top of the billions it already owes. Meanwhile, leaks run rampant, bills keep rising, and execs cash in. Privatisation isn’t failing—it is the failure. Time to take our water back: actionnetwork.org/letters/ask-...

“As we move forward with the wider Leith Connections project our core objectives remain the same – to improve the attractiveness, viability and safety of walking, wheeling and cycling in the area” theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2025/02/coun...

I’m absolutely delighted the Leith Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) has been made permanent today. This is the right decision for Leith, and will help to lock in the traffic reductions, safer streets and cleaner air that this scheme has already delivered.

A couple of points about the #Leith #LTN and specifically the decision of TRO sub-committee on Tuesday: 1) The evidence from traffic counts is the LTN has *reduced* traffic compared with pre-Covid levels, *not* simply shifted it to other streets. This includes on roads with no restrictions. 1/3

When we have people even in a community council posting in LTN unfriendly groups such as I Love Leith on Facebook trying to drum up negative sentiment amongst people in and outwith Leith - getting the word out for positive support is paramount for success if we are ever to change the future.

Did you know? Edinburgh-London is the UK's busiest mainland air route. Switching from plane to train saves 92% on your emissions. Should we remove air routes like this in the UK, where a direct rail link exists? Our thoughts: flightfree.co.uk/post/should-...

Ward councillors agree the LTN has been good for #Leith. Leith councillors want Low Traffic Neighbourhood made permanent

Fewer cars in cities equals greater satisfaction. Who would have thought it? Well, now we could all have this...

In Paris: 15 seconds of happiness as the urban highway on the banks of the Seine is transformed into a place for people, for life. It's a time for cities, the best places to resist threats. Cities for life are at the heart of our humanist urban commitment 🙌 💪🏼 Happy Proximity 💫

Charing Cross Road, pedestrianised today. Glorious. Because whenever you take cars away, cities get better.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

Lawyers for Liz Truss have asked me to stop saying Liz Truss crashed the economy. I only said Liz Truss crashed the economy because Liz Truss did crash the economy. If she wanted me to not say Liz Truss crashed the economy, she shouldn’t have crashed the economy. Please don’t share.

Giacinto Scelsi was born on this day in 1905. His Quattro pezzi su una nota sola is probably the best known of his works as a result of its inclusion in the soundtrack of Scorsese's Shutter Island.

'Recumbent Figure', Henry Moore.

Looks like privatisation doesn't work after all... <sigh>

Exemplary playing from Nadja Zwiener and beautiful sonorities from Johannes Lang's organ playing. Highly recommended...

Yes, let's get on with this. It's unsustainable at present.

What a great idea, to start Haydn's Drumroll Symphony with a quasi-cadenza!

This is a great step forward for pedestrians. It requires great vision, and peremptory action. Bravo!

It's time for western governments to act decisively.

An excellent example of how to re-balance use of spaces in a small city. We must be bold and take progressive initiatives like this.

Quote of the week, from the Deputy Mayor of Paris: "The redistribution of public space is a policy of social redistribution." As reported in thelocal.fr

All polls show a significant majority wanting to rejoin the EU A huge 92% of under 25’s want to rejoin the EU R/T if you want to #RejoinEU 🙂
