If you played TTRPGs between 1970-2004, PhD Candidate Geoffrey Ramirez (Binghamton U) is seeking participants for “Character Creation: The Tabletop Role-Players Oral History Project” as part of his dissertation. Interviews will be archived at the Strong Museum of Play (can be time-locked, etc)

hot hot reminder - if you're a comics critic, you've got TWO more weeks to apply to this $250 mini grant! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Heartbreaking. Gutted. So many memories of delicious late night food. I hope they at least closed it if their own accord.

A friend linked me to this vid earlier this week, and I've watched it 2.5 times since then. Cannot stop thinking about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHTT... I definitely have my criticisms of Patreon—who doesn't, at this point—but Jack Conte, its CEO/co-founder is incredibly insightful, here.

Diamond Distributors has filed for bankruptcy without paying for our December and January magazines and books, leaving us with enormous losses; we're staying afloat with webstore sales. Please help us by buying anything directly from our webstore at www.twomorrows.com. Please subscribe. Thank you

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes. They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going. Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.

There is no "DOGE" - Elon Musk just made it up. Musk - neither elected nor appointed - is just a criminal entering gov't facilities, stealing data, and seizing control of trillions in payments. This is a heist - just one so big & blatant it becomes a coup. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

BREAKING NEWS: CDC orders mass retraction and revision of submitted research across all science and medicine journals. Banned terms must be scrubbed. Goes beyond MMWR +other CDC pubs. Applies to research already submitted to top medical journals. Take a look. open.substack.com/pub/insideme...

19th News [Jan 19] -- New 592-page anthology, “A History of Transgender Medicine in the United States,” took its 40 editors more than a decade to compile. It documents how GAC is not experimental, not new, and not even confined to trans people. Available Feb 1. [HT @denisenorris.bsky.social]

Sex scene in one of your comics? Prison. An Eros comics in your collection? Prison. Yeah it's Oklahoma, which is completely lost. Don't think this won't spread. Project 2025 calls for just such laws. Fascists always go after "degenerate" artists. Who decides who or what is degenerate. They do.

ADD A "COOL LINKS" PAGE TO YOUR WEBSITE PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999 I AM SERIOUS

Update! r/comicbooks has banned X/Twitter links. “Supporting Nazis and Nazi sympathizers goes against comic books… r/comicbooks has always had a ban on hate speech and supporting hate organizations, and it appears that this now includes Twitter/X” www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks...

R.I.P. Jules Feiffer, age 95. His THE GREAT COMIC BOOK HEROES (1965) was a very influential book for comics creators of my generation, introducing us to previously unknown heroes and stories and offering Feiffer's firsthand account of the down and dirty days of the Golden Age comic book business.

Let’s talk about resistance after a conqueror takes power. Specifically let’s talk about this bendy yellow building, and what it shows us about the moment the Florentine Republic finally fell to its kleptocratic/proto-capitalist banking-fortune Medici conquerors 1/?

finally removed the "share on Facebook" and "share on Reddit" embeds from Dinosaur Comics and replaced 'em with two simple non-Javascript links: a permalink, and a link to share here on Bluesky.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

This is a beautiful tribute.

I’ve always thought of Lynch as an example of a true artist. Just now I’m realizing that, for all its darkness and oddities, his work always made me feel strangely hopeful. I’m thankful for that.

Fix Your Hearts or Die.

I posted an explainer at Good Comics for Kids today about the Diamond bankruptcy and what it may mean for readers and publishers: goodcomicsforkids.slj.com/2025/01/15/d...

The work done by @wwacomics.bsky.social, as well as the many incredible people who DID that work, mean a lot to me. I've made multiple friends as a direct result of the site existing, and I hope that it continues to shine as a beacon when it enters its next phase of existence.

Incredible news, though perhaps not surprising given the past months of delayed shipments. And not as shocking as it would have been 5 years ago. Is this the natural conclusion of Diamond losing its monopoly and exclusive relationship with publishers? www.comicsbeat.com/diamond-comi...

No, YOU’RE considering leaving work early to go home and watch this 😰

All my life people have pronounced my last name FRIEDlander (like fried food) instead of FREEDlander (the correct pronunciation. So, it’s kind of a play on that. The cannabis implication is just a nice bonus.

I really, really don't want to do this, but let's do a bit (just a LITTLE BIT) of fact checking about what Zuck said on the Joe Rogan podcast, because this is something I not only followed closely, but also spent time *talking to the actual people at Meta who dealt with this* which WAS NOT ZUCK.

The year for SKTCHD is kicking off this week — two feature pieces in one week! — and before it does, I wanted to highlight 10 of my favorite pieces from the past year in my Eisner-nominated subscription site about comics. If you haven't checked the site out before, these are a good place to start.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Seriously though, I’ve been watching his countdowns for a decade now and they are the best.

The Beat is a comics institution and all the best people should write for them

I really do love comics

“I’ve worked for the Washington Post since 2008 as an editorial cartoonist. … I’ve never had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at. Until now.” https://anntelnaes.substack.com/p/why-im-quitting-the-washington-post?utm_campaign=post&triedRedirect=true

This role is US-based only (which is slightly heartbreaking) but I know a bunch of people who’d be a great fit!!

Very cool to see The Beat publishing this kind of critical essay.

Just remember:
