Montanans - Sen Daines's voicemail message system is operating again. Call him - 202-224-2651 It takes approximately 1min 45sec to call and leave a message. Make it a daily habit. #mtpol

I love how the outrage here is that federal employees refused to let Musk’s minions from DOGE — a bullshit private body that has absolutely no right to access this info — have open access to federal systems. It’s like getting indignant that a mugger’s victim had the audacity to resist.

USAID= .5% of fed budget. Americans spend more on bubblegum than on aid. ROI in terms of power projection, soft power & institution shaping— never mind lives saved/societies rebuilt— makes it one of smartest things US does. Its why China, despite flat growth, will now increase aid budget. Just watch

You're not overwhelmed. You're under attack.

Massively. That’s a huge chunk of any USAO. And training takes time.

Trump is attacking the FBI and his supporters use the rationale that it’s necessary because people no longer trust the FBI - conveniently ignoring that people don’t trust the FBI because Trump and his ppl have spent years attacking it

The last time people underestimated the authoritarian threat. We're living through the same cycle again.

Like others, I’m partly concerned about conditions and transparency there. But I’m even more concerned about using the US military as a replacement for domestic law enforcement.

Absolute insanity. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

There’s been a kind of…fashion of late to view anti-Trump libs as lame and cringe and just annoying, aesthetically. I remember this exact same aesthetic judgment in the run-up to the Iraq war. The earnest libs were right then and they’re right now.

There are organizations paying media companies. Large donations. To report disinformation. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. A coordinated effort. To make this disinformation look like News.

I was reminded tonight that there is a difference between “doing things to take care of myself” and “rest” — and that both are essential. And, also, that I won’t be able to do what I want to do for others, individually and broadly, unless I do all of that. A good reminder to many now, I imagine.

Many more to come including critical people whose names are not as well known. Having talked to most of the people thinking of leaving and those who have left like Josh Dawsey, I can tell you none so far has actually wanted to leave. They felt like they had zero choice given current management.

We’re aware of the bot followers. We know it’s really irritating for yall. The blade runners are working hard and we’re looking at bigger steps.

New York Times Editor’s note: “Jimmy Carter died on Dec. 29, 2024. Roughly a year before he entered hospice care, he wrote his final New York Times Opinion essay. In it, he looked back on the Capitol riot and explained why he was so worried about American democracy.” www.nytimes.com/2022/01/05/o...

Demi has been a star since the first moment someone turned a camera on her. Audiences knew it. It’s wonderful that awards folks are figuring it out. Congrats Demi!!! So so so happy for you

If you aren’t familiar with his work with disabled children and their families … I highly recommend looking into his foundation. He has a disabled son and he’s done so much to give others the privilege that his money and fame provided him.

BTW the plural of CEO is not CEO's but CEOs. I think that might be useful knowledge for some of you. #copyediting

Update, UHC says I need to do 6 weeks of physical therapy before they’ll pay for an MRI. The problem is my PT recently stopped accepting UHC because UHC slashed its PT coverage to the bone. So I’m looking at paying 5x my co-pay out of pocket for 6 weeks to get *eligible* for the MRI my doctor wants!

Trump just nominated Charles Kushner to be AMB to France. Because, hey, screw it, let's not even pretend anymore.

Why isn’t the media harping on the fact that Trump won with the smallest margin in a quarter century and got less than half the vote? This should be a 24/7 news story. Are they afraid of Donald, or complicit?

Kind of amazing that all responses now on X are just trolls. I can't wade through and block enough of them to see actual people responding to whatever the article or post is.

Funny how little attention this is getting now. 🤷

These are times when we need truth-tellers who are not going to be cowed by a hostile, spiteful, unelected billionaire handed power by Trump. Thank you, @avindman.bsky.social

Reminds me of an argument in a book a few years ago )(from Oxford U Press, by a very handsome and charming author) about how it's not about material conditions, but about narcissism and boredom and the way societies fall prey to political charlatanism

I get it. Trump’s rage & quest for revenge knows no limits. Each of his picks to head our government confirms He intends to destroy & dominate every department . They will do his bidding. It will be chaos.

Seriously, Seb Gorka?

I’m old enough to remember there was some lady (I think she was like Black and Indian or something) who told us he was gonna do this and it would be bad

Four of Donald Trump’s nominees are especially dangerous to the security of the United States and to the well-being of its people, @radiofreetom.bsky.social argues in The Atlantic Daily. “The Senate must turn back these nominations, and do so en bloc.”
