Does he have any spares for my senators? (Gillibrand & Schumer)

They came to DC to get rich. Many people enter Congress with little and leave multimillionaires…somehow.

Correct. Since Clinton they love half-a** public-private partnerships like the ACA that provide poor value and shovel money to corporations. The people of NYC may have had enough of the establishment; we’ll see.

Will some dinosaurs get loose and threaten people? Can’t wait! (How do these keep making money?)

My Democratic (?) rep is too busy touting all the wonderful bipartisan bills she’s on. Seriously.

I’m terribly sorry to hear this, but at least with a firm diagnosis you can start a road to recovery on a sound basis. I hope you recover quickly!

I just read that BI had a big layoff, presumably using more AI. Now *there’s* a paragraph factory.

There is so much else terrible happening that nobody has time to worry about the systematic destruction of science and of academia, but these things defined my career. To your point, I’d call that disappearing people, not deporting them.

Ketamine, Steven Miller’s wife, could have been a lot of things. But the tan suit? It’s a different country now. There’s no government - no civil society - as we remember it; it’s just a reality show with 400 million reluctant participants.

Were consultants one of the biblical plagues? Can’t recall.

This is not Republican populism, if you read the poll question. It’s anti-corporatism. That’s different.

Yes, I’m afraid RFK and his minions honestly don’t believe the danger. I think they actually believe all this nonsense they are peddling. That’s really scary.

A lot depends on the state of population immunity. The last pandemic (H1N1 in 2009) was especially tough on kids because most adults had immunity to distantly related H1 strains that gave them partial protection. There is very little H5 immunity in the human population, which is a concern.

I’m really sorry to hear this. Hope you get some relief! I’m sure you’ve received many suggestions; you don’t need more from me. Feel better soon!

My Tw account is vestigial and that may be common. There may be fewer users *actively* following you there than meets the eye. Glad you migrated!

There is no “they” to blame. They is us, the voting public.

I’m still regularly seeing masks on the subway. Probably more in BK than the city, but some there too. Sure, not as many as in the past. I wear a kn95 on mass transit & crowded indoor locations.

China has the other large scientific establishment but migrating into it is unlikely. 2/2
comment in response to

You are correct. The US scientific establishment is very large and there is not capacity to absorb its scientists elsewhere, at least not in the Western world. The premiere institutions in other countries will pick off some of the superstars. 1/2

For those too young to remember, this just recapitulates the history of cable TV, which was originally sold as a commercial-free alternative to broadcast. Capitalism is always a race to the bottom.

It’s got to be hard. You probably never expected to be an example to a crowd of people you’ve never met, either. Who would? Best thoughts, & hi to Max.

Waiting to see if this exposes any vulnerabilities in banks & brokerages. Some institution that’s over-leveraged, for instance. Things get bad real fast then, eg, 2008.

To me this looks like another Grandmother Song or City Hall. Going to be a huge fan favorite and could hit on the folk DJ charts (at least). Lots of opportunity for audience participation. Grabs you in the first line - SO important. Total winner. 🚴🏼♀️🏆

When America saw the Abu Ghraib photos the country turned against the war and its perpetrators. When we see this … crickets. It’s not just the regime. The country has lost its moral compass.

BTW, pro bono doesn’t mean “for free”. It means “for the good”. This action makes a mockery of the term.

In a world of laws that might have been true but not now. Schumers mind is from the 20th Century.

Yes I was impressed that Laura Gillen, a swing district centrist if there ever was one, voted with the party on this. She must feel betrayed.

Laura Gillen NY-4 may not be into crypto. She just votes with Republicans a lot to maintain her bipartisan cred, like that’s what we need right now.
