Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

This proposal is short-sighted, drawing on inferior 20th century options when better 21st century are available (that are cheaper, cleaner, and healthier--like wind, solar, geothermal, and batteries). insideclimatenews.org/news/1902202... @virginiaclimate.bsky.social @vacleancities.bsky.social

While it's still available, here's a CDC summary of the many ways climate change affects health, e.g., via: -Air Pollution -Allergens & Pollen -Food Security -Food & Waterborne Diarrheal Disease -Mental Health Disorders -Precipitation Extremes -Temperature Extremes -Vector-Borne Diseases -Wildfires

More and more scientists are joining the ranks of fired federal workers—and fighting back through protests, appeals, and legal challenges.

So proud to have been Breitbart-ed…

Second federal grant that I have received that is now under scrutiny This is how the Trump administration is trying to drag US research backward

Why did the judge order this? Because it is against the law to keep tax payer supported tax information from taxpayers!

The Eagles winning because of DEI (a white cornerback)

This seems like a joke, but it’s not-this crazy amateur Administration unilaterally cut university support from @NIH, crippling vital research in cancer treatments, children’s health, and so many other things that Americans care about This cannot stand grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/n…

We will do everything in our power to continue building climate resilience in the Midwest, fighting against this new Administration’s backward, anti-science and anti-environment policies www.indystar.com/story/news/e...

I would love even a back-of-the-envelope estimate of what all this lost data cost taxpayers to develop, and will cost us in the future with their absence. This is theft of astronomical proportions.

The award no longer “effectuated the priorities of the State Department." The award in question? Supporting air quality in Pakistan. "They need answers badly. Their air quality is terrible. It’s not getting any better," @gabefilippelli.bsky.social told me.

Thank you Gabe for sharing the dire impacts of these cuts in research funding: “It’s going to be relatively devastating for Pakistan. They need answers badly. Their air quality is terrible. It’s not getting any better. They rate really poorly on climate resilience. They need these resources now.”

Thank you @hencarnell.bsky.social and @motherjones.com for letting me tell my story👇🏻 www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

If you are an environmental researcher and have been negatively affected by the pause / suspension of federal funds (for research or programs) — please LET ME KNOW. I am writing a story about this ASAP for The New Lede / The Guardian.

The U.S. just told its researchers: ‘No funding, no future.’ Freezing NSF panels doesn’t just hurt science—it derails careers, halts breakthroughs, and sends a clear message: innovation isn’t a priority here.

And just like that, my new award from the @StateDept to help Pakistan grapple with air pollution and climate change is no more, thanks to this new administration

My thoughts (en Español) on the trump withdrawal, again, from the global climate agreement (I think you can guess which way I am leaning…) Lo qué significa el abandono del Acuerdo de París yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/01/lo-q...

It is hard to put into words the impact that the freeze at NIH will have on health sciences-indeed, I have a proposal in review right now, but with review committees halted, it and many others are just stalled www.science.org/content/arti...

Can I stop writing proposals for a bit now?

Talking climate change and wildfires on CBC this evening. The faster we cut emissions and build resilience, the less suffering there will be.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️

A great preview of the forthcoming book by @MichaelEMann and @PeterHotez highlighting a new version of Mutual Assured Destruction from nuclear war—but this one supercharged by a pervasive anti-science vibe skepticalinquirer.org/2024/12/a-tr...

My local REMC has thankfully been moving away from coal, but note that they use terms like “…only available when the wind is blowing” and not parallel language for fossil fuels “…only available when we mine and transport coal to the power plant”

Holiday party with my intrepid lab crew-outstanding to the person! They are how the science magic happens!
