It's a very sad day. Just notified that @iza.org is closing its doors as of 31 December 2025. At a time when labor is under attack and technological change moves at an ever-faster pace, I can't help but think that this is a short-sighted decision. My heart goes out to those folks who work there.

🚨 Job Market Paper Alert! 🚨 🛫 🚢🗺️ How do countries adapt when certain transport modes become more expensive❓ My job market paper investigates how nations substitute between air and sea transport to mitigate the effects of transport cost shocks. #Econsky #EconJMP 1/9

Hello BlueSky! We are happy to launch the LONDON INEQUALITY NETWORK (LIN). The network is an initiative to foster interactions across UK-based researchers working on inequality. We organize an academic workshop once a term to enhance connections and collaborations across the network.

New post! Frequently Asked Questions about US Government Funding for R&D. Short answers in the thread, longer answers at the link in the replies.

🚨Today🚨 Kicking off the YSI @ineteconomics.bsky.social two days Workshop in Political Economy at @deps-siena.bsky.social The Political Economy of Growth and Distribution II: Global Imbalances, Power Relations, and Historical Perspectives Full program 👇 www.deps.unisi.it/sites/st02/f...

Guest program, great location, and (in my opinion) by far the best part of the INET initiative.

The next London Inequality Workshop (10th) will take place at UCL on March 20th! Register and find more details about upcoming the workshop here:

I was at a formal dinner with many accomplished people I didn't know. When I took my assigned seat, I introduced myself to the woman beside me (turns out she's doing amazing work upgrading infrastructure in the Global South), and she replied, "I know you. I joined Bluesky because you invited me." 😎

813 US billionaires held a record $6.72 trillion in wealth at the end of 2024. The bottom 50% of Americans held roughly $3.9 trillion in wealth. When 813 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

There you have it. The Economic Policy Uncertainty Index (www.policyuncertainty.com) just hit an all-time high, surpassing its previous high from May 2020 - the teeth of the #COVID pandemic. Consequences: worse investment climate, higher risk premia, (likely) higher interest rates...

Someone should write this black on white the day after H-index and impact factors started to drive decision-making processes in many scientific fields. Now the community behind the Complex Systems Society writes it and calls for similar initiatives.

🚨 Excited for the latest paper from the lab, led by Zhang & Arsham. Can we coarse-grain a #ComplexNetwork while preserving macroscopic network flows? Surprisingly, the answer is positive, and we have shown it by means of StatPhys + Machine Learning. 🧵 1/ www.nature.com/articles/s41...

There was a time when going to the US academic job market with Political Economy as a field was suicide. This put students mostly from developing countries at a disadvantage in the market. I wonder what US Econ academia thinks now. #econsky

Great to speak with ETUC and EESC today about the critical role of workers & trade unions in shaping just green industrial strategies. One way of ensuring they benefit from these strategies is through conditionalities. Our working paper with @rodrikdani for more ➡️ www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/pub...

"Europe is open for AI and for business!" I told CEOs in the margins of the AI Summit, including European tech champion ASML. Our 12 AI factories - computing hubs open to all - are the largest public investment in AI in the world. It will seed and it will multiply.

Europe is also open for cooperation. We're expanding our model of open collaboration to be able to host the frontier innovation in AI. We will launch AI GIGA factories, modeled on CERN Very large data and computing infrastructures to train very large models – open to all ↓ europa.eu/!ppF9RQ

It's not about Progress, it's about Power.

Very sad news. Dick Nelson had an enormous impact in Economics, Strategic Management, Industrial Dynamics, and of course Innovation Studies.

I’ve created a dashboard that projects potential GDP losses for countries if ongoing tariff escalations trigger a global trade war. I’ll be updating it soon with the latest data. alashkar.pages.iu.edu/GlobalTariff...

Deeply saddened to learn of Prof Dick Nelson's passing. His foundational work on evolutionary economics profoundly shaped my thinking on innovation and the limits of market failure theory. We met several times, including at Ford Foundation (he the second from right, and I, the only woman 🤔) 1/4 🧵

Scientists, given more time and flexibility, often stumble upon unexpected discoveries—like Alexander Fleming, who saw a mould had killed the bacteria he was growing, paving the way for antibiotics. Recent study analysed such findings—more of them than you'd expect. 👉 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I have several papers that explore tariff wars using economic models. Here’s what they tell us about likely outcomes (🧵) TLDR: All countries ultimately lose. While the overall impact isn’t catastrophic for larger economies like the US, it’ll be devastating for small countries.

Authorship in economics from low-income countries remains disproportionately low, even in fields such as international & development economics, where global diversification might be expected. @ernestaigner.bsky.social @jacobgreenspon.bsky.social @drodrik.bsky.social

Dick will be massively missed. ❤️ Changed so many of our trajectories.

Very insightful. Source: Internet.

I just read a very interesting article about the high rate of false positives in AI detection, which particularly affects non-native English speakers. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Getting real close to a billion posts

A giant indeed. Along with S. Winter laid the foundations for the field of Evolutionary Economics, an oasis within the strict and the dry field of Economics. Thank you and may R.I.P.

Richard Nelson has passed away. I had the privilege of meeting him at Globelics in Athens, some years ago, and his insights and passion left a lasting impression on me. The scientific community has lost a giant. He will be deeply missed.
