It's a straightforward relationship: high #inequality leads to the triumph of the far right. It will keep winning until governments deliberately seek to make societies more equal. I'm looking at you, Keir Starmer. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

what this says to me, unambiguously, is money is not nature's friend and never will be.

🚨🚨 Mackerel on the brink! Years of #overfishing, by the UK & others, mean it’s no longer a sustainable choice, says the Good Fish Guide. 🐟❌ We need science-backed catch limits NOW, not when it’s too late. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Just think anybody close to Trump would have a good idea when they or their mates could buy and sell. I am sure being good upstanding citizens that wouldn’t happen! www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cp...

Total drivel from the Farmers weekly. #rewilding “Man has interfered with wildlife and sheep farmers are paying for the consequences” www.fwi.co.uk/news/sea-eag...

1. Infuriatingly, here in the UK, the government still seems to believe that the only way of introducing trees is to plant them (see, for example, the current Land Use Framework consultation). News just in: trees can self-seed, which could be why they've survived for 360m years. 🧵

Zelenskiy saying that he will not sign a deal with the USA that would threaten membership of the EU, is more important than you might think on first sight. This gives the EU effectively a veto over the deal. So, now mango mussolini is negotiating with the EU. THANK YOU ZELENSKIY & The EU! 💛💙

The world's 370M Indigenous people make up less than 5% of the global population, yet they protect 25% of the land & safeguard 80% of biodiversity! Their traditional knowledge is essential for Nature Conservation & ClimateResilience. Upholding their rights under UNDRIP is our shared responsibility!

I’m struggling to understand why the public should fork out for “pet rent” (which the ombudsman & Labour says is within the rules) when the Labour Gov is cutting benefits in way which will push more children into poverty & make it more difficult for the disabled www.standard.co.uk/news/politic....

The last paragraph is bang on! www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

US seems to be putting the jackboots on! www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

Great that the environment secretary feels like this. Steve Reed we need you at the water debate in Parliament. 82% of Brits want public ownership! @compassoffice.bsky.social @labourlewis.bsky.social #OurWaterOurWay

Take note

Yesterday, I fondly remembered my dear friend Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 94. His legacy lives on in our hearts. Just days ago, Bill Shatner celebrated his 94th birthday — wishing him continued health and happiness. Live long and prosper, my friends.

Good article below.

Wales’s 20mph speed limit has cut road deaths. Why is there still even a debate? www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

I don't often ask people to write to their MPs. But I think they might listen to you on this, as it's so jaw-droppingly awful, and they're almost certainly unaware of it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Please also write to the Environment Secretary: [email protected] Thanks.

“It’s a PR disaster for Labour …People love wildlife much more than they like these numpties banging on about bats and newts.” Well said @chrisgpackham.bsky.social 👏😀

Simple and powerful little video

🔴Kemi Badenoch Ditches Net Zero After Taking Donations From Funders of Tufton Street Climate Denial Group The Conservative leader and her Shadow Net Zero Secretary both took funding from key backers of lobby groups campaigning to curb action against climate change bylinetimes.com/2025/03/18/k...

1. Today the Tories unveil their new policy: ripping up the commitment to net zero by 2050. Kemi Badenoch, with no evidence, claims "it can’t be achieved without a serious drop in our living standards or by bankrupting us." What the evidence shows is the opposite. We can't prosper without it. 🧵

“we need to remember that if conditions are not healthy for birds, they’re unlikely to be healthy for us.”

SIMPLE AS THAT…👇

This is my favourite/least favourite cartoon of all time. So true.

A reminder that sudden release of carbon has caused 2 of the 5 major extinctions. According to the Geological Society the current rate of CO2 increase is not matched by anything in the geological record. “Net zero by 2050 'impossible' for UK, says Badenoch” www.bbc.com/news/article...

Nuuk, Greenland said no to Trump. #3E

Interesting!

Ahead of the May local elections & Runcorn by-election, we need to remind anyone considering voting Reform: A vote for Farage is a vote for Trump. A vote for Farage is a vote for Musk. Vote Farage... If you want to kiss Trump's arse. Feel free to 'flood the zone' with these images.

Righteous column from Arwa Mahdawi today in the Guardian www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

1m people to have disability benefits cut by UK Labour govt. This is wrong. There are numerous alternatives. But Chancellor refuses to inconvenience the rich. Doesn't address causes - lack of healthcare, poverty, poor housing. Must lead to rebellion in parliament. archive.ph/46FfC

Very disappointing from Starmer. Its well time Wildlife charities used their membership to remind politicians that they could swing constituency results in an election. “Charities accuse Starmer of misleading spider claims” www.bbc.com/news/article...

“Ex-Reform UK Wales leader to stand trial over Russia-linked bribes” www.bbc.com/news/article...

We have a Labour Govt that doesn't understand that we need Nature to survive. ☹️

“In a barrage of pronouncements on Wednesday the Trump administration said it would repeal dozens of the nation’s most significant environmental regulations, including limits on pollution from tailpipes and smokestacks… and the legal basis that allows it to regulate the greenhouse gases”

Disentanglement. We have to do the same.

The successes just keep coming

Stupidity in the extreme from Trump.

The news has been more than a bit grim of late, so hooray for @carbonbrief.org providing some genuine and really meaningful **good** news: the UK's carbon emissions in 2024 were the lowest since 1872, because demand for fossil fuels just keeps decreasing. www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-uk-...
