Evil is going on. I managed to turn off the wifi before my leptop was once again filled with files I'd rather choose one at a time, if at all. My patience for always online, always connected, always syncing is wearing thin.

Oh gosh all kinds of stuff. A recent favorite was toast with goat cheese, avocado, and smoked coho. So good!

Are you the cool lady-presenting person on the left or the cool cosmic face person on the right? Wait, did you take this photo too?

Idk if you'll make it to looking for elusive waffles if you start the day trying to eat weasels!

I suppose I think that is the domain of human editors. I understand that it's free and doesn't require technical knowledge to use. I don't agree with its use in human work but I get it. Imo if someone is using AI to edit their work, they don't need me. I wouldn't further edit an AI-edited work.

I dread the thought that everyone's writing, after an llm editing pass or two, will sound like everyone else's. I'd rather edit for free than have that happen to someone who will struggle in the future because their style has been curbed to some average.

I'm okay with AI as a tool (not really into the environmental impact at all tho) to examine stuff in science, medicine, uh, maybe statistics or something. To help people with brain injuries. When it comes to realms that are very human, like creativity and the arts, it steals and flattens imo

I see what you're saying. When I think of editing, I think of a sometimes intense, contextual relationship with a writer. Part of that, for me, is finding the writer's voice and style, even if it doesn't match some style manual or rules. I worry machines will make everyone's work seem homogeneous.

Also, about AI, really? I'm middle aged, so to me that concept is foreign. Well, maybe not because I'm middle aged but because I've been an editor for so long that I cannot even. I can only imagine the kinds of comma colonies it's telling people to insert. Not a semicolon in sight. 😞

I'm so sorry for your loss. I bet she knew, every second, that you loved her.

Yeah. I'm in a privileged enough position that I don't have to worry that I won't make enough doing that. If I can use that to help other people get a leg up, then awesome!

I mean, for instance, if someone's got a novel and only has a budget of a hundred bucks, I'd work with that, or whatever they can afford. If someone from a company asks me to edit for them, they're getting charged market rate, as Satan intended.

Wow this article is so snobby and mean. Talking about people go to bsky to congratulate themselves for being better than Twitter users but he spends the whole time congratulating himself for not being here.
