I just saw an episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine in which they end up in 2024 and it's a dystopian future, and in the end the doctor asks how could we fuck it up so bad and commander Sisko answers "that's a good question, I wish I had an answer" and that was hauntingly depressing.
