the premier is saying "enrich our local billionaires" which really says it all

the way right-wing populism is taking hold of young people in canada and elsewhere is super worrying. see canadian federal polls showing ppl under 35 vote shifting *a lot* more right. never assume younger voters and future voters are going to win a wave of progressivism.

I think the Student Vote is maybe the most depressing results on the Ontario 2025 election. Conservatives up 36 seats from the 17 in 2022 and the NDP are down to 40 from 75. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_On...

An excellent assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the two Liberal frontrunners, and one that highlights many of the concerns I have about anointing an inexperienced central banker as PM in the midst of Canada's greatest-ever existential crisis. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

"faces a long list of challenges" You mean (mostly) A LIST OF THINGS HE MADE WORSE THE LAST SEVEN YEARS????

Ottawa, Ontario, and Canada wanting to run government like a business 👇

I agree with this. I've seen more laments about voter turnout than anything else about the Ontario election--campaigns or results. This isn't the (non)voters' fault. The faults are why there are so many non-voters and still went through with it but disillusioned voters.

So depressing that same government who changed Ontario's slogan to "Open for business" wins re-election with slogan "Canada is not for sale" as they sell off and sell out what used to be ours "to discover."

Back in snow land :( but this is also land of my cat so not all bad.

Get out and vote him out!

Travel day. It would be nice to return to some good news, Ontario. Please vote.

If only I spoke German this would be pretty perfect job description for me.

Relevant lesson from Portugal for Canadians: Just because high speed rail is designed and built to travel 300km/h doesn't mean it will. High speed train from Porto to Lisbon is 2h45. Regular train is 3h. Regular cruising speed only 140km/h. Apparently, this is regularly commented upon by locals.

Doug Ford only cares about alcohol and gambling. He's a hoser stereotype that's putting people's health at risk. Do not give this sentient hemorrhoid another four years, I beg you.

Whenever I travel, it always reinforces how NOT "only in Ottawa" annoying things in Ottawa really are. There are bad drivers, bad infrastructure, bad logistics, neglected and unkept spaces in every city. AND these are still pretty fantastic cities.

Happiest launch day to @reproutopia.bsky.social and their brilliant Enemy Feminisms, which is not just an incredibly valuable account of complicated and therefore often overlooked moments in feminist history, but a vital philosophical and analytical guide to thinking and moving anti-fascistly.

This is terrible news. Ontario is worse off because of it. Universities are under threat. Two universities have already failed b/c unsustainable funding (Laurentian & Brescia). Status quo will result in more. If you can vote in #onelxn, vote for publicly funded #healthcare & #education. #onpoli
