Oh yes! With the red stems and the leaves look the same.

Yes I think it looks rather sleek!

Normally with a dead hedge you stick the twigs between stakes stuck in the ground, but our soil is only 3” deep over the tarmac, so they’re gathered between V-shaped branches.

Agapanthus would do the job in style!

That's probably easier to buy

There's different attachments and everything. I'll get a quote.

@shed.gay do you think I could freestyle operating a mini digger or would I have to go on a course?

Hmmm there are lots of cars lying around here but I’m not sure how I’d prize the tyres off the wheels though.
Glad you think the idea makes sense anyway.

There’s a big plum tree that’s grown out of a half barrel, reconnected to what soil there is.
Might try that with our new trees: a base from which their roots can explore.

No, I probably should have done though!
I'd seen others raise the issue though and not seen it resolved.

Wouldn't the clay plaster stop bulk air movement, which wouldn't happen with exposed hempcrete?

Oh OK that's reassuring! Thank you!

Maybe talking about it here but resisting the temptation to make short form video would be a reasonable compromise.

Maybe I should. I'm kind of sick of the internet though. Making 'content' for my practice and the shop, getting annoying comments from dickheads.
Maybe this would be a nicer thing to be talking about, with fewer people being pointlessly negative?

When I tried it was 30 seconds and 50mB. So I didn't bother posting video here directly

I’d be well up for knitting buildings in Welsh but i’m not sure how that could be monetised
comment in response to

A second client has mentioned the knitting videos, so i can only assume they’re shown to everyone who watches the architecture videos.
Concerned i come across as unserious rather than as a renaissance man?

I'd considered it but there it can't go next to an outside wall

I've found a local place whose website says they can order stuff in, so thanks for the suggestion!

Oh that hadn’t occurred to me! Is it like book shops and they can whisk in any sapling almost immediately?

Oh no!
I love a bath, me. With candles lit like a woman on an advert.
comment in response to

Thanks, yes I've checked and they recommend a 3 phase 27kW version to fill a bath which is more electricity than we can easily get

I’m working on our maisonette now. I’m planning 2x through the wall aircon units (no garden) but had thought I’d need an immersion to have baths
comment in response to

All very interesting. Can the instantaneous water heater run a bath in a reasonable time?
comment in response to
post
Continuous extractor fans from the kitchen and bathroom improve air quality for far less. No heat recovery of course.
What kind of air con units did you go for?

I wouldn't go near spray foam insulation.
It's incredibly toxic, made entirely out of carcinogens, poisons your testicles, causes terrible mould and rot problems and makes your house unmortgageable.
But this is the sort of thing that 'fabric first' encourages, and we don't have regs to prevent.

I agree

As the grid gets cleaner you can decarbonise by switching to electric heat. Heat pumps keep bills similar to gas, and cost £5-10k per home, instead of 10 times that for a deep retrofit.
The 'Fabric first' mantra has become a zombie slogan that no longer connects to reality.
We need to move on.
comment in response to

‘Fabric first’ means insulating buildings before you consider kit like heat pumps or solar panels.
But a deep retrofit to properly insulate a home can easily cost £100k, is very high risk, and requires skilled trades, supervision and regulation that don’t really exist.
Even aside from the money.
