They are definitely going to break something. Systems that old in COBOL/Assembler also did many things to save on storage. You really need to look at the code to understand the data, or maybe talk to the support group before making a ridiculous assumption

Systems and databases have years of modifications/rules, etc. Every experienced system/database engineer knows you need time to determine issues. You don’t just assume this is an error or the duplication is creating fraud. This is tech 101. You break systems when you make these assumptions.

I know Comp-Sci grads from good schools looking for work. When I was recruiting for technologists, I was getting more H1-B resumes. When I asked the recruiter why, they said they had US candidates, but no one wants to pay higher salaries, so they stopped sending them. Hire US technologists first
