I had someone decline to participate in a qualitative study using interviews because they don't want their recorded voice to be stolen by AI. Anyone else experience this? It's a first for me. #QualitativeResearch

I am recruiting for a one-year grant-funded Post-Doctoral Fellow in the area of #climatechange and #aging. Please share the posting with suitable candidates: ubc.wd10.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/ubcfac...

Someone really needs to do something about Ticketmaster. Looking at tickets for Paul Simon concert this summer. Today tickets were released to regular people. Every ticket is a "verified resale." And the prices are absolutely ridiculous. Minimum price for two tickets is almost $600. No thanks.

Ooh this makes me so cross. But in replies @ginnybraun.bsky.social offers some good refs for challenging this ill-informed nonsense

Love this. thebeat.fraserhealth.ca/news/2025/Fe... Heads up @mathewsbrett1.bsky.social

Federal cuts to immigration are leaving hospital staff in the lurch. These are workers who came to Canada and got jobs with health authorities with the promise of a simplified PR application process. These cuts will push people to more vulnerable work, warn advocates. thetyee.ca/News/2025/02...

Come on folks, add alt-text to your images. There are more people like me than you think who won’t boost your posts without it. #Accessibility manningkrull.com/digital-phil...

TW: #AutismBC statement: “It is crucial to emphasize understanding of disabilities affected by delayed executive functioning and auditory processing & to enhance our protection of the non-speaking community members who can be particularly at risk." globalnews.ca/news/1101418...

Reading again the recommendations from Florence Girard's Inquest it's somewhat unbelievable that there are recommendations for Community Living BC and the Ministry of Health but NONE for the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/b...

“Many were frustrated and stressed from having to constantly accommodate the system and its requirements.” This quote from the paper feels familiar. Other #caregivers may also appreciate feeling seen by reading the (pseudonymous) stories of navigating home care supports.

NEW PUB: “Using a trauma-informed care approach to understand family caregivers’ experiences of access formal supports in dementia care” in the Journal of Family Nursing. #OpenAccess #DementiaCare #TraumaInformedCare journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

@sheilamalcolmsonbc.bsky.social @davidebybc.bsky.social the Minister said in an interview that she relies on info from the #CLBC Advisory Committee of self-advocates to know what is happening with this provincial crown corporation. Does this group still meet? There are no recent minutes online.

For those following the #FlorenceGirard inquest in BC it was absolutely shocking to watch #GlobalBC story yesterday and hear a #CLBC VP say that without them institutionalization for people with complex behaviours will return. @davidebybc.bsky.social @sheilamalcolmsonbc.bsky.social

You know what would be an amazing patient-centered pharmacy electronic health record ability? If a person could see online in real time if their prescriptions were ready. Meaning that they wouldn't have to sit and wait endlessly. And it would cut down on the need for pharmacists to make & take calls

I think the Gen Xers who have autistic kids but don't acknowledge autism among our age peers need a kick in the pants. We want all the accommodations for our kids but can't extend an iota of it to someone our own age (who may or may not be formerly diagnosed, which is another can of beans).

Canadians looking at labels for Canadian products: read them carefully. We have ketchup that has a Canadian Maple leaf on it but upon closer inspection the product is produced in Canada (just a few kms from where we live) but the produce comes from the US.

NYTimes adding insult to injury in this tragedy. The “treatment” was for autism, which isn’t a thing, and was being done by someone with no medical training who charges cash for expensive bogus therapies. And now a 5-year-old is dead because of the grift.

Got some manuscript reviews today and one of the reviewers has pretty much rewritten the paper. Do I invite them to be a co-author at this point? I'm glad they are enthusiastic about the paper but this will be a word count challenge.

My dog is celebrating today. I took him to the vet for his check up and they have finally switched to doing temperatures in the ear rather than the, um, other place.

silently screaming because one of the funders I apply to has changed the CV portion so now I have a shit-ton of work to do on top of what I already knew I'd have to do.

Please do this. I was completely unsymptomatic and this tested positive, leading to a colonoscopy which showed a number of pre-cancerous lesions. #ScreeningSavesLives

Today is the perfect day to learn that this account has migrated to Bluesky.

Very interesting findings and I'll use this as another opportunity to remind people that in BC adults have to pay out of pocket for the Shingles vaccine. My mom just had her first dose and it was $160 + $24 for her GP to inject. She is in her 80s. @davidebybc.bsky.social @josieosborne.bsky.social

Canada needs more anesthesiologists to keep up with demand. I heard from more than a dozen Canadian nurse anesthetists who work in the U.S., many of which say nurse anesthetists would be able to help out. But Canada doesn’t have nurse anesthetists. More here: www.cbc.ca/radio/whitec...

No, SARS-CoV-2 isn’t a little bit airborne. It’s not “situationally” airborne. It’s an AIRBORNE VIRUS, spreads via the air. I’m granting an amnesty on people who said (5y ago) that it wasn’t. I won’t say I told you so if you finally acknowledge the evidence. Let’s just get this right and move on.

The new show The Pitt is so good. But. I hope if my heart is exposed in the ER the team will at least put some masks on while breathing on me. Lots of hand sanitizer tho so clearly they go to the Bonnie Henry School of Precautions.

Admittedly, that inauguration was tough on Robert Frost, who had a hard time reading his poem ("The land was ours before we were the land's") in the glare of winter sunshine.

There is a new house 4 doors down. My nextdoor neighbour just sent me the listings for the multiple rental units on the property. They range from $2595 for an underground basement suite to $5200 for the main floor suite. If the landlord rents everything as posted they will get $10K per month in rent
