Was asked to interview for a western media outlet and they were like "and has the impeachment vote awakened the women into political consciousness" and I was like ??? Women have always been the FOREFRONT of protest in Korea: Yoo Gwan Soon, stroller-pushing mothers in 2008, Ewha Women's Uni in 2016??

Not received, but I most often take notes in my TL (if I need more supplementary notes, I write those in my TL too, and then I use my first lang if it's really necessary) Both langs I learned through school or as a self-studying heritage speaker. If it was a lang from scratch, I'd prob try from int

Hehe I'm only missing Whale among the physical books displayed, which feels great. I have both KR + ENG editions of 아몬드, 타워, 대도시의 사랑법, and 저주 토끼. 고래 has been on my list to buy and read since before the Booker announcement too, so I gotta work my way through the rest of these to get to it ☺️

I'm including current bc I'm really just focusing on these two: — Korean (learning hanja only as a shortcut to figure out 한자어 without using a dictionary lol) — French (standard) Will learn in future: — ASL — MSA — Maghrebi Arabic or Emirati Arabic (I count this as separate from MSA) #langsky

A different kind of 'language portrait', asking students to use wool (a colour for each language). Shared anonymously, with permission: "I chose the blue to represent my English in my brain as it’s the language I think and dream in primarily. (1/3 🧵)

My main beef with Duolingo, aside from some of the wonkiness that was going on with some Asian language courses back when I tried them out, is how they fired real people just to replace them with AI. Language is at its core such a human thing...

Doing this in my TL just because she/they 키는 작아서 다음 질문으로 넘어갈게요 심발: 구두가 가장 편하죠 토끼띠 🐇 | 쌍둥이자리 문신: 하고 싶고 생각해 둔 디자인이 있지만 언제 할지는 아직 몰라요 귀는 둘 다 한번만 뚫었어요 음료: 죄송하지만 소주, 제주 감귤주스, 모구모구, 윌 등등 bsky.app/profile/down...

Rollercoaster of emotions right now. I absolutely despise Korean politics but I'm so proud of my people filling the streets and protesting on a freezing Saturday. Undoubtedly first of many long, cold days. 멀리서 응원합니다.

Talked to some protesters at length-- they told me they came out expecting impeachment to fail but that it was important to come out anyways and put pressure on the legislature. "See you next weekend, you bastards," one said.

Reports are coming in everywhere that cafés and restaurants around the National Assembly have received so many prepaid credits by anonymous citizen donors that they are *no longer accepting* prepaid orders. Any protester at and around the National Assembly is encouraged to use these credits ☕️ ✊🏼

🧵 1/20 Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. #BookSky #BookChallenge #Books Wish I could quote repost whoever started this challenge, though I adjusted mine bc I love commentary (below)

Reading a non-YA novel in my target language was definitely the hardest thing I've done so far to work towards mastering my TL! It was 대도시의 사랑법 by 박상영 작가님. Also @antonhur.com's translation LOVE IN THE BIG CITY is one of my favorite lit in translation books, been raving about it since 2022 🥰

Korea Expert here. I’ll explain what’s going on over there because the Orient can be confusing to Westerners. In Korea, there is a concept known as “the law.” (법) This is a set of rules which are enforced to encourage prosocial behavior and ensure stability which leaders aren’t allowed to break.

The Life-Changing Magic of the Rule of Law: The Korean Art of Decluttering and Impeaching

Retreating soldier from failed National Assembly infiltration operation bowing several times in apology to a protester who then thanks him for doing the right thing by following the law and retreating, and shouts after him that we are all peers under democracy 🥹

Han Kang’s Nobel Prize speech next week is going to be VERY interesting

If my circumstances allow me enough time and money to study another language, even if only through A1, I would take that so I'm not monolingual by choice 😅 Being monolingual in English in a country like the US is pretty silly and strikes me as a voluntary decision #langsky

"Mariposa" (butterfly) has been my absolute favourite Spanish word since long before I could speak the language and "maripostear" as a term for posting on Bluesky is simply too cute! 🦋 #langsky

know fluently: Korean, French, US English currently maintaining and prioritizing: KR + FR want to take up again: ASL, MSA

Korean: heritage speaker, impostor syndrome, a serious learning community building during the pandemic when I also took a gap year. French: my dad's suggestion that not many people of my ethnicity speak French fluently in the US (other languages below)

Alors, si les hispanophones peuvent être hyper mignons en disant « maripostear » pour parler de poster sur Bluesky, qu'est-ce qui empêche les francophones d'utiliser « paposter » (papoter + poster) en français ? 👀 #français #langsky

¡New publication! Language development, linguistic input, and linguistic racism doi.org/10.1002/wcs.... I discuss how the way we approach linguistic input in the study of language development is an example of linguistic racism. #linguistics #language #devpsych

Being a linguist is inherently political. We know that all language is equal and that being treated differently because of your languaging has to do with the body you inhabit and not the language itself. #linguistics #language

The most underrated language learning hack is self-compassion ❤️
