I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency We are facing the demolition of American higher education

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

He nails it.

ICYMI from yesterday! read about a cozy rebellion (of sorts) that uses the Middle Ages against techbros. #medievalsky

When people want to talk to me about the backlash against US higher ed but don't want to mention racism, this is one of the key reasons I become very annoyed (Also the data used to create this post had its contract canceled this month so are won't be able to track things like this in the future)

This is a balm to the old spirit at the end of the week, and let me second the admiration for Hacking College, a book that takes what students need and want from their educations beyond "major equals job" seriously.

hey! me & @lollardfish.bsky.social wrote this piece for @slate.bsky.social about what's hot in 2025, because it's the Middle Ages! we see a retreat to the medieval as a (tacit) act of resistance against techbro authoritarianism. find out why... please read and share #medievalsky
