I know Kevin Costner and his galaxy-sized ego put the show writers in a difficult position, but this solution to that problem is Game of Thrones level bad. They've even got Jamie playing the roll of Tyrion Lannister as I scratch my head wondering when he suddenly became so catastrophically stupid.

In fact, if Jamie is worried Beth will make an attempt on his life and wants to "go on offense," having John killed is the stupidest thing he could possibly do. It just makes it more likely Beth will put her fist through his shitty, smug face at the first chance she gets.
