Vance just badmouthed all of the US’ closest allies so he probably is not the one to talk to about such things.

Wonder how fast it’ll take for people who use it to start getting scammed

In fact I remember this one really bad dude from Germany was a failed art student.

Ironic for an unelected billionaire to comment on it.

Does someone want to tell this guy that judicial review is a thing that he always existed, and that there are absolutely military courts.

He wasn’t right about Mexico paying for that wall, just saying.

Why wouldn’t it work? Republicans kept yelling about tons of stupid shit endlessly this past election cycle and it worked in their favor. So yelling constantly about factual stuff seems even better.

That’s a great point, I didn’t even consider that CBS really wasn’t and unbiased source

I hope you are right. Recent events have me very on edge

What the fuck America. How can you support this shit. I might be done with this country. I need to start to figure out an exit plan.

The executive branch controlling the power of the purse is a violation of separation of powers.

And there’s also no reason to think an unproven and probably barely tested AI would have any ability to realistically detect fraud or waste

Sounds like the inefficiency is coming from inside the house

Government employees doing this sort of thing are supposed to have their names available to the public aren’t they?

Suddenly really happy that I made the switch to oat / almond milk

It’s seeming more and more like the real reason they went after USAID is because USAID was investigating Ukraine’s deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink. Which is weirdly similar to the thing that Republicans accused Biden of in their investigation of Hunter.

I don’t know how it works at the treasury but I’ve worked at other financial institutions and the ‘separation of powers’ and ‘dual control’ concepts are very ingrained in such organizations. You would also never give an ‘auditor’ control to actually make or stop payments.

Even if the tariffs end swiftly, I think this has caused a shift in how a lot of Canadians feel about buying American products. It will likely cause lasting damage.

He looks like complete shit. A lot worse than even four years ago.

What is being done to stop it? This needs to cease like TODAY. An injunction, a restraining order, SOMETHING.

what the fuck is wrong with people? These are grown, probably educated, adults. We haven’t had a commercial plane crash in over a decade. . .
comment in response to post
That’s actually MORE clever than I thought to expect from them

Oh the other hand if they get rid of good lawyers it’ll be harder for them to competently execute their agenda. Like you know all those executive orders that looked like they were written with AI? Imagine a lot more of that.

So the version of the story that Trump was pushing may not have been fully factual? Disappointing, that guy seemed like such a straight shooter.

What security?

There’s a Costco only six miles from me. Time to get a membership I think. The place is also, by reputation, far better to its workers than other warehouse style stores.

Working at a bank myself, I believe it. Not only is the talent pool for many positions (ie credit analysis) very diverse, generally staffing in a branch location reflects the demographics of its community. It helps build trust with people.

I can’t help but think if FF6 was made today we’d have conservatives whining endlessly about how ‘woke’ having two female leads is.
comment in response to post
If we’re going to go that route why not split off into our own countries entirely ?
comment in response to post
I appreciate the sentiment, but please be careful. You’re better for this country if you’re above the ground.

maybe they should be informed that almost all of Trump’s cabinet picks were chosen because of their race and not because of ability.

If they hurt anyone it’s on Trump, and the people that voted for him

Apathy is exactly what fascists want. They don’t want any resistance.

It’s not like there’s a bird flu going around that could easily become a pandemic is there?
comment in response to post
I’m not a fan of Rubio but he actually does have some experience that would make him more qualified than most other picks. This might be a message to pick qualified choices. I’m more interested in seeing how the Hesegeth vote goes.

When did they show grace to the other side?
comment in response to post
I gave people some benefit of the doubt the first term because no one truly knew what he was going to be like. This time? Voting for a guy that explicitly said he’d use the military to go after his enemies? The guy that ended RvW? They knew what he was and they own this.

To be fair, it was probably a good choice for a first thing to cut.

Yeah this reduces the perception of a ‘true’ free market and creates the appearance instead that you have to bribe Trump to do business. Corruption like that is be reason why many investors are wary about investing in certain third world countries.

Funny, when I was in grade school they made it pretty clear that the first amendment didn’t apply there.

I think the biggest difference between them is that Kavaunagh at least on paper had relevant experience for doing the job. Hesegeth is completely unqualified on both paper and in demeanor.

They didn’t cut funds for the fire department, they increased them. Thats a pretty bad piece of misinformation going around.
comment in response to post
And anyway, they increased their Fire Department budget significantly. This disaster didn’t happen because there wasn’t enough money thrown at it.

No one seems to be able to agree with what the mistakes (and the external factors) were, or at least what the relative importance of each one was. One elephant in the room - we need a way to counteract the massive amount of foreign disinformation. Americans are apparently easily manipulated.
comment in response to post
I would be surprised if they ever privately thought he was interested in doing good for others, however I think that his own self-interest can potentially be parlayed into doing something good if he feels like he himself gets some kind of benefit.

Streisand Effect go!

Even if he ends up winning the war or getting a favorable ceasefire agreement I feel like it would be a Pyrrhic victory as the cost to their economy, trade relationships, and population (deaths and severe injuries) are disproportionate to what they would have gained.
