WHY SHOULD I TRY TO BE ANYBODY ELSE?!

The US's costs of de-Americanizing global trade are going to be immense

I was out walking at Rosie the River National Historic Site, and for some reason decided to look up the reviews. 🤦‍♂️ I've never been inside the tiny visitor center, but they have a ton of signage everywhere outside, and it is the least radical language or stories I could imagine.

bill maher is a bad person. he's always been a bad person.

The divergence here from two companies with *very* similar customer bases is pretty wild, you do not see this sort of thing happen at scale very often.

Not Antisemitism (according to MAGA): - Firebombing a Jewish governor‘s house during Passover - Doing a Sieg Hitler salute - Eating dinner with neo-Nazis Antisemitism (according to MAGA): - Saying Israelis and Palestinians deserve rights and dignity - Using freedom of speech on campus

part of running a wolf-in-sheeps clothing campaign predicated around tricking voters into thinking you're a liberal when your plan is to govern as a corrupt conservative is I guess there's no point in putting in the effort to write a real policy platform.

CA state senator. are any of our national D senators even talking about this?

this is the MA legislature this state rep says can't be relied on to vote down an athlete ban btw:

republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover

They continue to violate a court order to retrieve someone they illegally deported. We’re now well beyond a constitutional crisis. If they’re allowed to do this, their secret police can sweep up anyone, for any reason, deport them & refuse to bring them back. That would be the end of democracy.

"the state can just summarily imprison someone without filing charges or holding a trial" doesn't just overturn democracy it overturns 1000 years of common law, like throwing out the entire legal system entirely and saying all people in America are the state's property.

NEW: A second filing today from the DOJ tells Judge Xinis that in their view, since Mr. Abrego is in Bukele's custody, she can't order them to do anything further to bring him back since that's not what "facilitate" means. They also say the deal with Bukele is classified and/or a state secret.

The easiest path to bring Abrego home doesn't run through the courts. We have to make the situation deeply politically uncomfortable. This is a bigger scandal than the Iran Hostage Crisis and yet we are barely hearing about it from Democrats.

CBS, like most major outlets, went out of its way to hire Republicans and coddle them in most press coverage, and their reward is a baseless lawsuit and sham FCC "investigations" of all the outlets to hyper fixate on as an enemy of the right, CBS is an erratic choice

Brilliant thread on the essentially fascist fascination with AI slop “prompt goblins” is a terrific turn of phrase

The Trump administration is saying that they can deny due process to anyone they want and deport them to dangerous foreign prisons. This isn’t even Project 2025. This is Nazi Germany 1933.

Louis CK still goes on comedy tours, Johnny Depp was forgiven by the vast majority of people, Bill Cosby got out of prison on a technicality, Cuomo is running for mayor of NYC, Trump is president for a second term, Jonathan Majors is being welcomed back into Hollywood, etc. And this was WITH MeToo

According to the Project 2025 Tracker site, implementation of Project 2025 is now at 42%.

I'm a lawyer and this is correct. Straight line of "blatantly illegal constitutional end-runs to violate human rights" from Iran–Contra to Gitmo to CECOT paved by the only consequences the perpetrators suffering being more money, more power, and more prestige.

As atonement for voting for Rubio’s confirmation, every single Dem senator should make it their mission to destroy his career over this.

reporters are still using that strange future verb tense for trump “if he doesn’t comply with this court order, we will be in a constitutional crisis” but that already happened! it’s a past event, not a future hypothetical

We’re in a full-blown crisis. The Supreme Court couched its language but was fairly clear that the Administration had to at least engage in a good faith effort to bring this guy back. These people are openly decrying the court and admitting they have taken no steps to try to do so.

Every once in a while, I see something in the news I recognize from the Old America, the one I grew up in, the one my parents grew up in, and it gives me hope.

While there is a lot to say about this image, the thing that stands out to me the most - what IMO makes genAI a specifically right wing phenomenon - is the craving for approval. It is not enough to be able to generate robot lingerie warrior lady. They NEED to also be praised for doing it.

Do you ever think about how Liberace was closeted? Liberace!

SCOTUS rules that they cannot order someone’s release from a foreign prison but they can order the government make every effort. Trump then engages in half-assed fake negotiations, which fail. lawlessness, constitutional collapse continue without crossing the arbitrary red line of ignoring SCOTUS

looks like we are doing line go down tomorrow

hey @chuckschumer.com what was that again about defying the Supreme Court

it’s simultaneously true that it’s the foundation of all rule of law, and also that almost no one in the House thinks it’s worth trying to impeach him over

The principle at stake here is so fundamental it predates even Magna Carta in English law, and before that stretching all the way back to Rome, and has its similarly ancient equivalents in every legal system in the world, because it's the inherent bedrock foundation of what courts and laws are for.

part of why gender liberty is such an important lens to the later transfem is that your sex is male until it isn't; you look in the mirror and you don't see a female body if you don't have a framework wherein you are at liberty to live as a woman anyway, you -easily- get taken in by the lie of agp

I want you to read this thread ❤️

My cartoon for this week's @newscientist.com

Exiling people beyond the protection of US law without due process is not only unconstitutional, it's a rejection of the entire American revolutionary project. Sending people "beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences" is one of the grievances enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.
