I share about walking, biking, great cities, & progressive politics. I work for @sngreenways.bsky.social (Seattle's walking, biking, and streets for people nonprofit), but these are my personal opinions. GordonOfSeattle on various platforms.

Wake up babe, Seattle’s first Bike Line dropped this weekend linktr.ee/fifabikeline

It was well played! Incredible energy from the Sounders. But Nouhou’s shoving match that cost us that first goal… come on man

Just tried out Lime’s new “Glider” and I’m a big fan! Feels a lot more safe/stable, zippy, and fun compared to the stand-up scooters. Almost more like an electric Vespa. Good torque too — no trouble with the hill on King St on the way home from the Sounders game.

I’m hearing this was a 16 year old boy who jumped off his bike out of the way of a driver who ran over it and then sped away. The boy is apparently without it major injuries thankfully. Feeling both really angry, and grateful some dad still gets to hug their kid tonight

When it comes to turning car space into people places, sometimes less is more. One block long (or even half block when u need to maintain mid-block vehicle access) transformations can work really well. 2 good examples off of Granville Street South in Vancouver (13 people in the 1st, 19 in the 2nd).

The radicalization of the American right is THE story of US politics over the last four decades and political reporters are still not allowed to talk about it

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

Incredible.

Golden Gardens is one of the few parks that the Seattle Parks Department has provided decent bike racks for, and it has paid off!

Massive crowd moving through Seattle. The front of the march has reached Seattle Center. Meanwhile, people are still pouring out of Cal Anderson

Huge crowd in Seattle's Cal Anderson Park for the #NoKings rally. People standing from the Black Lives Matter street mural on Pine all the way to Denny. Bands, banners, and speeches from Congresswoman Jayapal, MLK Labor, and others.

Made it! #NoKings #Seattle

Fuck fascism.

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Didn't even make the front pages this morning Today in "neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party"

Adding greenery and street trees to a bike lane goes a long way towards improving the streetscape. (Desjardins Avenue, Montreal)

I was chatting with another parent at the playground yesterday and he said “since getting our cargo bike, biking my daughter to and from school every day is the *best* part of my day.” I agreed. I never feel this way about driving my kids around in our car. How we travel matters. 🚲 ❤️

Big turnout for last night’s celebration ride of the new 11th/12th Ave NE protected bike lanes! We rolled from U District Station to Green Lake. Thanks to everyone who came out! #SeattleByBike #ProtectedBikeLanes #PeoplePowered #UrbanJoy

The Beacon Ave/15th Ave S bike lanes are looking great! A total game changer for safely and conveniently biking from Beacon Hill to the CID and beyond! It’s still under construction but much of it is already rideable. Learn more www.seattle.gov/transportati... Get involved with @bhsafestreets.org

This program was "wildly successful" at addressing one of voters' top issues - so Dems in #waleg and @governorferguson.bsky.social cut it. Just mind-boggling.

Comment sessions at 9:30am and 3pm on a Monday...I see we're not pretending anymore when it comes to who we're asking for comment on the Comp Plan.

Do you ❤️ #daylighting? Well DC has ample spaces all over the city. WATCH! They also paint magnificently beautiful murals in them! Listen to artists & @gabeklein.bsky.social talk about safety & meaning behind some of them! #Urbanism @bloombergdotorg.bsky.social @openplans.org @nyc.streetsblog.org

See you soon!

Good chart from a study in Montreal of the impact of a school street on active & independent travel to a primary school. Children were more likely to travel independently on school street days* (every Friday) than other days. Available here: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

NEW RESEARCH: new car bonnets are trending higher every year and drivers of high fronted cars unable to see children as old as nine 😱🚙🚸❗ #Carspreading is out of control. What’s the latest? 🧵1/8 @transenv.bsky.social @cleancitiescampaign.org

No official announcement from the Seattle Public Library, but the Museum Pass program — which allows cardholders to get free admission once every 30 days at venues like MoPOP, the Museum of Flight, and the Woodland Park Zoo — is back up and running after pausing at the end of 2024.

NYC DOT is rolling out a new design for conventional bike lanes that will improve safety + visibility for everyone at crossings, where half of all traffic deaths occur. The agency will begin adding these along select new & existing lanes w/high crash rates. More: www.nyc.gov/html/dot/htm...

KUOW actually ran two stories on trees and housing today. Here's mine: www.kuow.org/stories/seat...

When we push for walkability, bike lanes, and good transit, it's called "forcing a lifestyle." But when the auto industry traps you in a car-dependent society and drains your wallet, that’s somehow called “freedom.” Got it...
