"I love my neighborhood, and it wouldn't be half as good without all the apartment buildings," a West Seattle resident says. He used to have to drive to the store; now he can walk, because density makes it possible to support local businesses! "Also, you can plant more trees."

"Seattle can be a haven for trans people, but only if there is room for them," a speaker from High Point (West Seattle) says. Seeing a lot of jazz hands on the side of the room where I'm sitting, along with a lot of stony faces on the homeowner-dominated side.

Fuck, I didn't put "starter homes" on my bingo card. These people really believe it's possible for working people in Seattle to afford the same kind of small starter house they bought in 1972.

“Why should Seattle City Council have lower ethical standards than the U.S. Supreme Court?”
For real.

Reminder from CM @alexis4seattle.bsky.social that she represents and serves the entire city, even if other councilmembers with financial conflicts of interest would have to recuse themselves on votes regarding things like tenant protections in one of the most expensive cities in the country 🤔

“I always want to be on the side of transparency and ethics,” CM Rivera says (unironically) as she looks to weaken ethics rules for city councilmembers

Current ethics rules “disenfranchise” critical voices, CM Moore claims. Ya, corporations can’t vote.

Still going strong, standing for ethics and renter protections

As for the ethics rules, I've never heard one person argue in favor for them, at this meeting or any other. The only constituency for this bill are council members with financial conflicts of interest who want to vote in their own benefit.

In other words, violence has been dropping citywide despite low staffing. And where violence has occurred, it has been in "hot spots" with high staffing.
This is Seattle.

“The best way to save the orcas is to tap your ORCA card, increase housing density and public transportation.”
Love it.
