They were fine folks, the Streissguths who impacted so many millions of people through their work. My friends were lucky enough to rent the house they owned next door to where they lived. Such wonderful gardens as well.
Pretty excited about the new Cheryl Chow Park off Rainier. It’s great for families and many of the elders living nearby. A bit biased because I helped Parks acquire some of the property 7-8 years ago. Pics from grand opening.
I love it! We need to get a picnic shelter though. Parks really dropped the ball. Here’s a family enjoying the only shade at the whole park a few weeks ago.
The park behind One and Two Union buildings over I-5. Haven't been there in over 20 years but used to go there on my lunch break and it was actually very peaceful. (It's it still there??)
Ballard Corners Park— it's the backyard we don't have just 2 blocks away along 17th (healthy street), which usually doesn't feature oodles of dangerous cars speeding. Wonderful handful of cherry trees that is perfect for a springtime picnic. Too bad it doesn't feature an actual corner store anymore.
Ballard Corners has a small play structure more aimed at bigger kids and it's been a joy to watch our 7yo grow into it and our 2yo aspire to it. It's also where grandparents and neighbors bring kids for spontaneous bubble parties on pleasant summer evenings! Literally our alt-backyard.
Victory Heights Park. It’s around the corner from our house, swings and play structures for kids, a paved loop path that helped my kid learn to ride a bike. And food trucks in the summer - including tomorrow evening!
My ex-landlord on Vashon used to live in one of the houses on that P-patch in the 70s. I recently got a guided tour from her old room mate that still works there. Pretty cool.

(Used to be Queen Margherita but since it closed, the place that took its spot — Smoking Monkey — is pretty good too)
But I will say it's impressive how bustling Greenwood Park usually is.
