Now do it again. I dare you.

This is far from the first time we've had an innovation that was going to take software engineers jobs. They've been saying that since software engineers existed...

I'll be honest - it's really just the most recent. There have been very clear signs since before he took office ☹️ Stay safe. At least, as best you can...

I'm curious - if every household has to do the same, I wonder if the overall result is more or less energy used... I kinda assume that the one school kitchen cooking meals would be more energy efficient than every family doing so individually.

To be fair to her, she's (probably) on the payroll of those firms so it's no real surprise she's upset by it....

Did you not enable Fascist State mode? You can't do those things in normal mode...

Can you choose where to allocate the likes? So, can you opt to allocate 10,000 likes to the Cheese option if you wish? ;)

Then there was someone who called in suggesting that we should raise VAT on luxury items. But not luxuries like yachts that the super rich buy. No, luxuries like eating out or having a bottle of wine with your meal. The stuff that the middle classes would buy instead - if they had any money left...

Now, Labour have been in power for less than 1 year so can't really be held responsible for all of that debt. So who is? Surely not the "party of fiscal responsibility" that were in power for the 14 years previous... 🤦‍♂️

Here's one of the Craigslist posts that's advertising for this: washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/tlg/d/wa... Now, I can't say for sure that the post itself wasn't faked to make this look bad, but it's a fair bit more concrete than just people saying it on social media...

Or do what they're doing with Trump's ego parade, and actually pay people to attend to fill seats...

If people weren't already planning on boycotting the World Cup, maybe this will convince them... Imagine if nobody from outside the US dared turn up, and we had empty stadiums for the first time, broadcast around the world, all because of the fascist regime over there right now...

If I wanted,I could order a single pack of Asda Bakery Victoria Sponge cakes - shelf price £1.86 - for delivery at only £8.74. So only 469% price increase!

I more meant that with Uber Eats you can pay someone else to go to the shop so you don't have to... I mean, it's extortionate how much they charge - especially for small orders. And no, it's not fresh from a bakery. But it is possible...

I don't know exactly how "in the sticks" you are, but I live surrounded by farmland with the nearest town being 10 minutes drive away, and I can order Uber Eats from the nearest major supermarket...

At least Matt Walsh put in the minimum of effort to not just copy/paste the vitriol that his superiors are demanding he post... Or maybe he saw the others posting it and wanted in on the hate-train...

Because you keep putting them down in rooms that don't have any sunlight. And then because that's a daft place to look for them, you can't find them and therefore need to buy more...

Maybe because it's not sunny in there that's where you take them off. And then because you don't need them there you put them down and forget about them...

Now, it's only going up £1 a month, so it's not a lot. But the fact is they're putting it up to charge me for features that I never asked for, don't want and don't use...

The thing is - everyone knew this. Trump being close friends with Epstein, being super creepy, being a convicted rapist and most likely a pedophile is all public knowledge. Everyone who supported him or voted for him knew all this already. None of it is a surprise reveal...

In UK terms, it's like if the main parties were the Conservatives and Reform, and someone claimed that there should be a third one between the two. But in reality, most people want Labour, Lib Dems or similar...

The big problem here is that, compared to Europe, the US doesn't have a left wing party. It has right and far right. So the "middle" that he's talking about is just "not as far right"... And I suspect that doesn't really represent what the people want. It's just they don't have a great choice...

Wait - I'm confused. The objectively evil Elon Musk is now going against the obviously evil Donald Trump and MAGA cult. Are we meant to be against them both? Or do we side with one of them now?

My wife's filling out a form online. It has the little ⓘ icons to get help about fields. Clicking one pops up the help, then refreshes the page because the event handlers aren't set up correctly, making them completely unusable. Trivial bug to catch and fix, but no they never spotted it... ☹️

LLMs are just autocomplete engines. They can't give original feedback on anything. If there's something similar in their database they can give the same feedback that that received, but but definition that doesn't work as well for anything novel.

Now this doesn't give us free reign to be wasteful just to get to market faster. We should obviously still take care in our craft. But if we're writing e.g. a simple webapp, good quality Node code (or Java, C#, etc) will perform more than well enough...

Whilst I don't disagree, some of this depends on what you're trying to achieve. Many apps don't *need* to be faster/lighter and may instead benefit from being easier to build and maintain. Now the two don't have to be mutually exclusive, but often you need to balance one against the other...
comment in response to post
Yes, you get badly written apps. You do in any language. But there's nothing about Java or the JVM that makes that more likely...
comment in response to post
I work for somewhere that's very Java heavy. Most of the apps I work on get restarted when we have a new release to install, or else when we have OS updates, and that's about it. In some cases that might be months between restarts...
