We moved on from the War on Terror and the accompanying human rights abuses. We moved on from Reconstruction before the work was done. Moving on from both led to where we are now. If we move on from our current crises, we're setting ourselves up for those same problems again and again and again.

On this week's podcast, Birding editor Ted Floyd is back for another edition of Random Birds: www.aba.org/09-11-random...

I don't think so, because there's strong evidence most MAGA faithful don't actually believe much of what they say. Instead, they believe they're in on the con. It's less "I believe Trump's lies" and more "we must collectively lie, because that is our weapon in the war against liberals."

A top economics reporter goes off script on national TV: “I am going to say this at risk of my job, but what President Trump is doing is insane.”

Criticize Pritzker for being a billionaire all you want, but he is way more in line with what regular people want than this guy.

Check out the way this Long-eared Owl changes the shape of its facial disk when it hears a rodent below it:

the details I discuss here get to the core of how DOGE is dismantling democratic self-governance in the country and why GOPs are torn, what to know what's happening but actually DONT WANT TO KNOW because otherwise they can't hide, can't pretend they're not involved

I'm not doomscrolling, I'm just sampling a buffet of farm-to-table panic attacks

Very disappointed in @repmoskowitz.bsky.social ... an opposition party, we do not have. www.axios.com/2025/03/06/a...

"But when they reached the USADF’s floor, the DOGE employees could not find anyone to let them inside the suite. The official said employees remained at their desks and continued to work while the DOGE staffers wandered the halls. The DOGE officials left..." 👏

South Park predicted this.

Howz about a boop on the snoot for this old gal's 11th birthday? #LifeWithSammy

Tired: Learn to code Wired: Learn to farm

So let's review. Over the last 24 hrs we've learned that two DOGErs embedded at IRS are finalizing a plan to share your tax data with people throughout the government; that's plainly illegal. Meanwhile Mike Johnson claims that Elon is already pouring your Social Security data into his AI and he's...

A guy who used to be a comedian & is good at improv and dealing with hecklers and who has also spent the last 3 years in a war zone turns out to be a guy you can’t out-alpha, imagine that

HEY! Me and Nate are talkin' birds at NOON CENTRAL today. It should be a fun one as we tackle one of the most confusing species pairs in the ABA Area.

MAKE THE DAMN THRAWN TRILOGY

Please enjoy my last ever post at Climate.gov/ENSO Blog. This afternoon I was fired by the Trump Administration 15 days before my 2yr probationary period ended on March 13. I have worked at NOAA since 2010, and I'm so incredibly proud of the work I did. If anyone wants a quote, let me know.

It's the Musk Effect. Someone who sounds like a genius until he starts talking about something you're knowledgeable about, and you realize he's saying the dumbest shit ever.

We love to see the ways birds can spark creativity across the board. Check out this highlight of Common Loon inspired looks! www.channel3000.com/madison-maga...

Zero interest rates let some people in Silicon Valley luck into riches without much breadth or depth of knowledge, but because they became rich, they convinced themselves they are geniuses, and that their genius extends to everything, and thus their opinions about everything are informed by genius.

Something to think about when thinking about what Elons doing right now www.businessinsider.com/who-was-elon...

“Possibly” 🤣

I want to address a related point to the one I raised in this thread. A couple years ago the Times did a really strong package about the power of SpaceX. Not only is SpaceX. Not only is it now one if not the preemptive orbital delivery company in the world it also has a fleet of ...

Some interesting posts re: John Fetterman's staff turnover

The ABA is deeply concerned by recent staff reductions in U.S. federal agencies tasked with the stewardship of American’s lands, waters, and wildlife, including wild birds. These actions have real world implications for the wellbeing of wild birds, particularly those facing extinction bit.ly/3Xc4BCK

fantasizing about a world where an opposition congress responds to trump’s attempts to usurp legislative power by defunding the entire white house staff

@govpritzker.illinois.gov is using his "state of the state" speech today to bring the fight straight to Trump/Musk/MAGA. "My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America – and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one."

This is incredibly smart by @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social, a lesson Democrats have to learn fast. There will be no a-ha moment for the electorate. You can't wait around for people to realize how bad it is if they'll invariably wind up blaming the Reverse Vampires. You just have to fight, right now.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers wants his state to become the first state to audit insurance companies over denying coverage. More of this, Democrats.

The root that tears apart your foundation begins as a seed of distrust, hate, and blame. The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe didn’t arrive overnight. It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.

Dark Pence is back.

Gift link: "At California’s Yosemite National Park, the Trump administration fired the only locksmith on staff on Friday. He was the sole employee with the keys and the institutional knowledge needed to rescue visitors from locked restrooms."
