My advice is to call your representatives in Congress (in both parties) and ask what they're doing to unblock postings to the federal register, which are holding up NIH study sections, since this is the current block on American science

The economies that are supported by universities will suffer. Most grad students and postdocs being paid by universities are living paycheck to paycheck, and that money goes to housing, food at local restaurants/grocery stores, and local art/cultural things in the towns the universities are in.
