Do you know if anyone has done a survey of institutions pausing admissions? I now know of a few programs through word of mouth, but would good to get a broader view

Reduction in offers for institutions not in the top tier is also an anticipation of higher yield on offers made, with more students still on the market. We've reduced offers hedging on a higher yield. Hoping to maintain cohort size and prevent over-enrolling. Waitlist is deep if our hedge is off.
You blocked anon edits—thanks. And deleted info about UTSW. Created quite the scare today here—which could very well be warranted. Wouldn’t be surprised if we were to freeze. Or have. But it’s harmful to spread anonymous information without sourcing. I know this was done with good intentions.
Many grad programs are pausing and reducing admissions in response to NIH funding pauses and pending EO’s on indirect cost reductions. These workforce reductions have the potential to imminently and irreversibly harm research labs & grad programs
This hurts new and early career investigators (like me) the hardest. Most of us finished our postdocs & started our labs during the COVID-19 pandemic with shutdowns and supply issues at that time. Now we’re being hit with ::all of this::
Yes, this. I think about this as an early career researcher a lot. If the tenure requirements are an R01 equivalent and graduating one student for example, what does that look like with these NIH pauses and reductions in admissions?
I'm asking as a parent of a biomedical engineer senior undergrad-they are supposed to go to Pitt next weekend for interviews. Haven't been told it's cancelled yet. Do you think they will still go through the interview process even with this pause? I'm trying to stay hopefully optimistic while my+
The pause at Pitt is not at the med school. I’m not sure if Biomedical engineering is in the school of medicine. I do think it’s valid for them to reach out to departmental admissions citing the article. The pause at Pitt does not seem to be all units though.
+child's dream of PhD research is being completely thrown for a loop with all of this. I am livid at everyone who voted for DT for creating all of this horrible mess.
Columbia has a hiring freeze as covered in the link, but is not pausing PhD admissions as far as I am aware (nothing has been announced about changes to PhD admissions)
I'm creating a set of tracking actions people can support and contribute to; would you like me to include this? FYI I'm involved with the the open Declaration To #DefendResearch Against US Gov Censorship https://tinyurl.com/3bwuc38f (and please sign!)
Thank you for tracking this impact!! We must continue to act and #resist #NoTimeForSilence! BU isn’t pausing admissions - per the link you have hiring is frozen, including for post docs, but grad admissions are not. There are a few programs that aren’t accepting new PhDs this year but that was announced in November.
I appreciate that the list seems to include other departments/cuts to science beyond biomedical. These reductions seem much broader within the sciences.
PhD admissions at University of Southern California is back on for College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences. 100% of normal admissions. Pause was only temporary.
It would be helpful to have the list of places with a hiring freeze. I have been trying to help scientists who lost their positions to find jobs. In addition to job ads, it would be helpful to know who/where to avoid.
As an early career researcher, losses like pause in grad recruitment are very disruptive. Most aspects of my lab are impacted by this and other federal policy changes. Will we be OK? Absolutely. Will losses be painful? Absolutely. My typical response is brash defiance, but it’s hard day after day.
Looks like someone else pointed this out, but BU did not pause PhD admissions (department chair here, and our accepted student day is Monday). If you could correct the spreadsheet it would be appreciated, since we certainly don’t want to scare our amazing accepted students!

Helpful for my undergrads, and my biochem major son applying for grad school next year. 📌

I see Brown a few weeks ago paused a thing for other reasons and BU a couple moons back.
For whatever reason this headline amuses me though; maybe you'll get a smile.
