Nothing to apologise for, I've been highly distracted throughout January and not been able to play (or do much else)! I'm hoping Feb calms down, at least on a Friday!!

Thanks to YouTubes recommendations, I rewatched '89 earlier today inbetween Teams meetings and eating a 'Christmas Dinner pasty' (which is like a cornish pasty but turkey, cranberry, etc)! It just felt right. Also, Heenan does not get enough credit for his agility.

I'm not sure between Dick Tracy or Scrooged or MIB. Pushed, I'm going to go Dick Tracy because hearing it I can picture the 90s-noir Tracy animated series of yellow jacket in the dark we didn't get.

New Hope had three guys following a Death Star and then dropping a surprise down a chimney - very Christmassy. Empire had planet of snow and they (awkwardly) had family round for dinner on Bespin - very Christmassy. Jedi had fat guy on a sled (well, barge) and visit by three ghosts - so Christmassy.

Fortunately YouTube has great compilations from the 80s UK Christmases www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lXb... (Nothing like seeing Santa light up a cigar or having a pint - but xmas will always be things like Ferrero Roche, Memorex tapes, a man made of margarine, and a mouse, cat and dog snuggling)

I need to add, it's also why pretty much everyones tapes for most movies recorded off TV would all have Christmas adverts and news of the Boxing Day sales! Half-way through the year you'd watch a tape of Stripes and suddenly Santa was back hawking festive merch. This was accepted norm.

It's interesting because in the UK there was always a Star Wars movie and Bond movie on TV at Christmas (sometimes multiple) to the point that satelite channels set aside marathon channels for them (and later Potter movies). Xmas was when the huge 'network premieres' would be - always behind!

Watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving as a kid outside the US, it's earnest made it so 'I get it' about thanksgiving as a holiday, not sure Garfield would have had that impact - didn't see it til much later.

Congratulations on making a landmark skeet!

The commentary team needs to keep to the script though when introducing the float as depicting the battle between the Colonials and the 'Cyclons'

MadBalls also offers the opportunity for giant beachball sized MadBalls being thrust about by stage hands or dancers who are very much freezing their asses off, but also know they'd be in for it if they didn't keep two hands firmly securing their Mad(Beach)Ball at all times.

Yes! Bonus if when firing the confetti guns they grimace and lean away in anticipation of the pop due to something happening in rehearsal.

Glittery writing on the backing wall that reads Battlestar Boogie! The important thing is that Dirk and Richard not be at all dressed in their outfits, but wearing regular clothes next to a fake Starbuck and Apollo wearing obvious wigs and carrying cheaper guns. Just awkwardly half-singing.

The Dancing Cylons need to be using the disco version of the theme though.

Yeah, but those hearings were coordinated by the King of the Mole People, so how can you trust them?

In the UK, it was the Nit Nurse who came in, dressed in the starchiest of faces and the sternest of uniforms, to check every child for lice eggs and larvae. Everyone lined up and the first sign of anything that was not a perfect scalp was immediately pulled out of line and parents called.

Just like on the other place, it's so good to have CGB to help people connect (and really, just to make it feel like home again!), so I'll always give a shoutout if the right opportunity comes up!

"Well, thank you for that interesting and indepth two-hour explanation of how Chunk from the Goonies and Slimer from Ghostbusters were indirectly responsible for the sub-prime mortgage crisis...and I'm sure regular listeners to Homestyle Country Cooking With Ethel & Deb were delighted too."

The hashtag game scene here is a little slimpickling at the moment, but @calendargirlbot.bsky.social exists and continues to be wonderful. I think once fun starts, fun will spread - and a lot will be down to finding how to make use of lists and feeds to connect and share.

It came out just before "Welcome to the jumble sale, at the Christmas fete, we got all the hand-me-downs at a decent rate", right?

John, I'm not 100% sure, memory isn't what it used to be, but...wasn't that your 2024 resolution?

Yes, although I also wouldn't mind Paul walking to the ring, tripping over a lace sending him tumbling towards the apron where he collides teeth first, and the match is called off while they have to unhinge his jaw with rudimentary tools.

For xmas dinner (cos Brit and thanks-less) we always go with the glass jar and typically have to get one smooth and one whole berry version because no-one remembers which one they like until the first teaspoonful dollops onto the plate.

Kinda get that feeling of the old comic book "Send money in a self-addressed envelope to join our EXCLUSIVE super secret club!" and everybody gets a (jpg) badge, personal (mailing list) message ando be one of the few to influence decisions (by filling in a survey that doesn't store results)!
