Taxpayers should not be underwriting infrastructure to import foreign LNG at the same time as multinational companies pay little tax & bank eye-watering profits from exporting šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ LNG. We need affordable energy but this is madness šŸ¤Æ

@chrisbowenmp.bsky.social letā€™s make this happen!

How about that NACC? Are we going to get to the election without them delivering a single successful corruption investigation?

No one should have any illusions about Trumpā€™s trade ā€˜diplomacyā€™. Itā€™s America First enforced by crude, strong arm tactics. Australia must respond with strength, putting critical minerals supplies, #AUKUS and JDF Pine Gap on the negotiating table. #auspol

So after promising to focus on safety, theyā€™ve gotten right down to workā€¦ on gender terminology?

Bluesky is great, a refreshing change from the enshittification of corporate social media. But, since joining, I canā€™t shake this feeling that we are still collectively missing the point. Itā€™s not enough to have ā€œa new place to postā€. This piece elegantly articulates what Iā€™m trying to describe.

Opinion | Stop obsessing about what Trump says and focus on what he's doing, because that's where he's weak. The rest is spectacle, writes @keanebernard.bsky.social

The Liberal Party of Australia has made an ad about its #nuclear plan, and itā€™s surprisingly honest and informative! #auspol youtu.be/JBqVVBUdW84?...

An important follow up to his first post about how we're absolutely in the middle of a coup, @brockm.bsky.social explains how simply calling out the truth in the face of a bombardment of lies is critical. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/04/t...

Itā€™s oddly satisfying, and in many ways a microcosm of current geopolitical power shifts, that after billions of dollars in speculative investment in AI foundational models, OpenAI and co are being quietly leapfrogged by Chinese open source models.

This is perfect explanation

Not only do we basically give our gas away for free, we donā€™t even keep enough for our own use šŸ¤Æ Itā€™s just inconceivable that šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ as one of the biggest LNG exporters will now start importing. The major parties have failed us. www.afr.com/companies/en...

They shut down their own app for a day, then turned it back on thanking Trump. What an obvious scam this was. Disgusting on the part of the Tik Tok owners, Trump, and all his sycophants who reversed their positions on it one second after he did for no reason other than he did.

The biggest problem in the world is #misinformation. Most problems stem from it. The solution is simple. Treat misinformation like a virus. Vaccinate children against misinformation via education. Start yesterday. #viruses #education #Finland #auspol edition.cnn.com/interactive/...

This is precisely what first people and environmental experts were warning would happen. ā€œImperial Oil and Gas has reported an incident in which contaminated water was "inadvertently released" onto vegetation near a fracking well in the Beetaloo Basin.ā€ www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...

Your daily reminder that Dutton is pushing the two most expensive forms of energy - nuclear and gas - in the middle of a cost of living crisis

serious question: what's stopping anyone else from doing the same thing? can i legally Wii-ify a live sports broadcast and share it myself? if so, isn't this a huge threat to the value of live sports rights, the only thing in media that still has any value? kotaku.com/australian-o...

Fact-checking suddenly looks quaint, inadequate and practically irrelevant. Whole realities ā€” the supposed culprits for the LA inferno, a new MAGA map of the world, a child sex-abuse scandal in Britain ā€” now sweep the internet overnight. We no longer need fact-checkers. We need reality-checkers.

This is the most thorough scientific breakdown I've seen so far of what is and isn't attributable to climate change, political negligence, and bad building practices re: the LA fires: www.motherjones.com/environment/...

Five years on: the relentless spread of the #BlackSummer fires down the east coast of Australia over six months between 2019-2020. The scale and speed of the fires is still pretty shocking and difficult to comprehend. (Geoscience Australia #DigitalEarthAU Hotspots data)

Due to this idiotic statement, by a person who has proven his inability to distinguish truth from online propaganda, I just donated to Wikipedia. Please do the same.

The largest battery capacity version of the MG4, one of Australiaā€™s cheapest EVs, could power an average 3-person home for over 4 days without needing the grid. Soon, many Australians will have that kind of capacity sitting in their driveway. Vehicle-to-grid has so much potential.

Here is the last cartoon for 2024 thanks to everyone who has enjoyed the cartoons this year and also to everyone who has been nice to me I really appreciate it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Very interesting reading from OECD's International Transport Forum on dealing with scarce energy resources. TL:DR; electrify where possible: road transport, heat pump - avoid bio/e-fuels, hydrogen, so they can be deployed in specific alternative-less sectors. www.itf-oecd.org/managing-com...

Good to see the ABC putting the global dominance of solar and batteries into perspective while our confused little country is drawn into a silly debate about nuclear. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

Solar rush: fossil fuels eaten alive by #solar Soz, but renewables now inevitable Climate deniers & paid obfuscaters acts to delay only hurt those that are delayed China installing 2/3 world solar Our @fssau.bsky.social projection: China will reach 1000GW solar by 2026 www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

So Dutton's plan: šŸ¤”underestimates construction, fuel, operations costs, & construction time šŸ¤”ignores SMR, coal power plant extension, nuclear waste disposal & accident liability costs šŸ¤”assumes less consumption šŸ¤”spreads costs over 50 yrs but only models 25 yrs Well, he's convinced me. #auspol

Peter Dutton and the Coalitionā€™s war on renewables provides no relief to Australianā€™s trying to reduce their energy bills, locks in expensive coal and gas for another 10-15 years and does nothing to address escalating climate risks.

ā€œin seeking to conflate and confuse on its centrepiece policy, the Coalition is doing little more than treating voters like mugs, assuming they'll be more interested in style over substance.ā€ www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

If you just ignore existing state and federal laws, the cost of nuclear waste, water use, decommissioning costs, rising construction costs, building a new industry from scratch, the falling cost of renewables and the fact that Duttonā€™s figures are blatantly cooked, his plan is actually reasonable.

šŸšØWhen people are struggling with high household costs, facts matter. Here is the data: the only way for power prices to come down is with more renewables & electrification of households. Govt needs to help people get off expensive gas. #smartsolutions #auspol

@reneweconomy.com.au ā€˜If the Liberal-National Partyā€™s policy leads to slower emission reductions (even if they ultimately deliver net zero by 2050) this carries a serious penalty for our children and future children,ā€™ writes Tristan Edis #energy #nuclear #auspol reneweconomy.com.au/a-sneak-prev...

Should be front page news ā€œWorld-first analysis of the superpower trade finds šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ could contribute up to 9.6% of the world's emissions reductions while generating 6-8 times larger revenues than those typical from Australian fossil fuel exportsā€ www.superpowerinstitute.com.au/work/the-new...

Are we sure he hasnā€™t secretly made himself environment minister?

Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.

The growth here has been astounding, & the @bsky.app dev team has been working miracles. I pray they will have the strength to resist the urge to become absolutely gobsmackingly rich by selling ads or do the bidding of billionaires. We will all gladly pay you not to ruin this place šŸ™

Six months ago, I would have said Labor's plan for caps on political donations is excellent. But I've learned otherwise. This is a plan to *entrench* the major parties. Please read the below šŸ§µ (and screengrabs) to see why. 1/n #auspol
