Most of the adult-oriented XF were in the 1980s when the genre was in its heights, but sadly have been out of print for decades. Nowadays there is no XF for adults, especially in Traditional publishing. And it bothers me so much. They are seen even more as “Children books” because of that. 😑

Thank you. 👏👏👏 It bothers me to no end when people label Duncton Wood as “Watership Down with moles”. They are VASTLY different from each other. Honestly I much prefer the Duncton series over WD. It’s more complex, more epic, unique…Yes, WD paved the way for XF, but it walked so DW could run.

Seeing that Robert Eggers post has never made me agree more. I just don’t find any stories set in the modern day appealing at all. With all this technology everything is convenient for the characters (Looking at you Horror films), but only when the plot calls for it. So you have no tension.

I find history so much more appealing than anything set in the Modern day. The modern setting is just so..Boring. Technology makes everything so convenient and unexciting and the fashion ugly. Its aesthetic (if any) is also lacking in complexity. And the modern slang is utterly cringy as hell.
