Didn’t the civil war drive up the price of cotton which boosted the economy of Egypt? Or is that a myth?

I’d appreciate it if you posted here more since I’m boycotting the other place. People like different things, if people don’t like you there is always the block option. I also like Noah and wish he’d post here.

How about this Analysis: Trump tariffs load costs on consumers and the economy for no apparent benefit.

Disney has killed Star Wars, marvel, neglected Pixar, and drowned the market in these soulless live action adaptations but sure blame the actress. It must be hard to face the fact you’ve destroyed every bit of IP in 10 years.

I know I’m basing this on media he controls but he seems like a nice person with relevant expertise, management experience, and he’s so into space he’s spent his own money/taken the risk of flight.

I’m sure this isn’t a very strong legal point but I don’t see why courts can’t get all up in their national security business given that previous decisions have said that judges can second guess officials in areas they don’t have expertise. So why not dig into every assumption?

Putting aside politics, would you invest in a company where there CEO was AWOL? What about a P/E of 136 for a company whose sales aren’t growing and their latest product is a failure. I believe JPM has a price target of $125 or something. The company needs an adjustment starting with a new CEO.

Presumably a lot of the resources are necessitated by complexity and lack of automation. I wonder how the US compares to say NZ where we have a simpler tax code and many people aren’t even filing returns.

Stupid question - how does that attack work in practice versus retaliation? Ie if Japan had nukes, how would China strike them without retaliation?

Tesla was successful until they took their eye of the ball and their CE/owner embraced NAZIism. Absent recent events their challenge wasn’t being profitable it was justifying their valuation. SpaceX is hugely successful. Both companies would be wise to get a new CE.

It’s not just Trump, I learned through COVID that the mind just can’t remember the details if not actively reminded. Also, Trump got worse over time. Some deluded themselves into thinking he’d start at Trump 2016 and not Trump 2020.

Does buying board games count as a distinct hobby? Jokes. I could see myself getting seriously into Lego/Puzzles but the cost/space considerations are even bigger for Lego than board games.

Musk’s great strength appears to be saying yes to ideas others rejected. If a smart engineer came in and said let’s try and land a rocket he said yes. Big success. The problem is he dropped the filter on who he listened to.

I keep thinking of how the French revolution started with the nobility whipping up discontent to prevent changes to their privileges and end with …. If I was a billionaire I’d be recognising that things couldn’t get much better for me than 2024.

I don’t think we should make this personal to the individuals - could this be an editorial decisions? But someone should apologise for this crap. They should replace it with “Displacing the population of Gaza would be a war crime.”

I appreciate this is things getting better. But it’s a really bitter pill for ratepayers to hear that in these recent years of big rate increases for water infrastructure, all we’ve done is put patches on the leaky pipes with no impact on the rate of leaks.

Those who need to notice noticed a long time ago - republicans, billionaires, educated voters, they just decided to ignore it/exploit it and hope it fixes itself.

Yes some Democratic leaders are insipid, but voters are the reason you have Trump. And voters can be the solution. Stop expecting leaders to save the people from themselves.

People seem to blame Biden for not stopping a second Trump presidency - that wasn’t his job, that was the job of voters.

Also, we didn’t kill the earth, it’s a lot more resilient than we are. Worst case is we’ll have massive population collapse and the damage we’ve done to the environment will quickly reverse.

It’s accurate but the positive is humanity’s normal is to live in varying states of failure. Fortunately, negative outcomes usually don’t impact me personally. So take the stoic view and note that you’ll probably be fine. I wish people were better but they aren’t.

I actually think there is a way to shitcan him. He can’t take away musk’s megaphone, but he can could probably get him removed at SpaceX. Musks reporting failures could lead to losing clearance/prosecution and that might push him out as CE - win for all.
