Elon threatening to just leave people on the ISS is making a pretty good case for why you nationalize your space program!

“As prevalent leaders of our great city, not publicly condemning or speaking against the behavior of Councilor Haxhiaj simply emboldens her and others who believe they are above the law,” the union wrote. Any suggestions on what they meant instead of "prevalent"? #EFA #Worcester

Exciting to see The New Yorker’s June 2 cover by Kadir Nelson honors Major Taylor, the first African American sports superstar, leading a procession of riders through city streets embodying different eras.

So tired of the NYT's wimpy journalism around this regime's activities

This is key to the survival of authoritarian regimes. It's also an example of the Spiral of Silence in action: if there is no public opposition then people keep silent about their doubts, which makes it appear that there is more support for the regime than there is, leading to even more silence etc.

okay now that you all have gotten a taste of America's rational and predictable new trade policy, everyone who wants to build your new factories here just form an orderly line

It is the result of an entire party of guys who fancy themselves tough, yet will absolutely not stand up, for a single second, to a dipshit delusional senior citizen

Vance is lying (again). Social Security has repeatedly debunked this. The actual claim is that 40 percent of direct deposit fraud occurred via calls to the agency. That is wholly different, and massively less, than 40 percent of calls being fraudulent. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/01/u...

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

Reagan started the lie about welfare queens who live in luxury on public assistance. No one ever located one of these individuals but the lie lives on. In the spirit of Jesus, can we please have some empathy for folks who might be going through a rough patch through no fault of their own?

when I taught intro econ I used to go through this story with marginal tax rates and tell them it would be on the exam. I would do a review session and tell them it would be on the exam. One-third still got it wrong.

Everyone should be screaming like this! More of this, now please!

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

The Great Depression didn't especially help the rich. Let's not imagine the Trump team are super-geniuses pretending to be morons. They are in fact morons and they are kicking our asses. That's the way it is.

I remain stunned that we don’t have a half dozen Democratic senators competing to see who can be the biggest thorn in Trump’s side.

The Trump method of news reporting, buy the people doing the reporting www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-... It's very MAGA!

Talk soon, @rieckhoff.bsky.social!

Finally, some very good news. #Worcester www.telegram.com/story/busine...

DOGE “seemed unsure” of what USAID programs they cut and is now attempting to reverse some of the cuts, says @propublica.org reporter Brett Murphy. “This is the opposite of a careful review."

I’ve got some free time this afternoon - let’s do a quick Q&A. Share your questions below, and I’ll answer as many as I can.

i have seen people saying "how can you think of music [art, travel, meals, etc.] when our government is evil?" because that is literally why we fight. even in the darkest hours, people crave connection and beauty. this government is trying to kill that in you. do not let them.

China responds to Trump's trade war

I mean, it’s not great that only 5 of 9 Supreme Court justices believe in the Constitution, but a win is a win.
