There are 31 faculty associated with the same university’s Center for Jewish Studies. @chanda.bsky.social is right - this is erasure of Palestinians as a people.

Exceedingly good example of teaching about rhetoric in the current moment. You might even find something to help you navigate conversations with people in your life who do not understand why the administration’s actions are very much groundwork for discrimination.

Dear manager: 1. that’s me in the corner 2. that’s me in the spotlight 3. losing my religion 4. trying to keep up with interagency mandates to improve efficiencies in government operations 5. and I don’t know if I can do it

Dear manager: 1. Friday night I crashed your party 2. Saturday I said, "I'm sorry" 3. Sunday came and trashed me out again 4. I was only having fun, wasn't hurting anyone 5. And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change

No Republican in Congress should be allowed the claim to be “pro-life” ever again. This is a disgrace. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/cdc-s...

Friedrich Merz did not even wait for the final results in Germany's election before delivering what could well be a defining verdict on US President Donald Trump, consigning Europe's 80-year alliance with the Americans to the past.

Now online in CHEST, PaRC faculty Gina Piscitello & Jane Schell as well as Ruthe Ali & @hauschildt.bsky.social report on use of quotations of patients in goals of care notes, across 14 hospitals in several states. #hapc research Read what they discovered: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39848570/

This is a picture of my son taken soon after he was born. I suffered from a very rare pregnancy complication. But thanks to physicians at the University of Michigan and a lot of US funded research, he was born healthy. Please post, who has Science Saved for you? #WhoScienceSaves #MedSky

"Gulf of America" is just a loyalty test. It's a way of checking who is going to abrogate reality for no reason other than a cowardly refusal to stand up to the bully or an opportunistic willingness to toady up to one. Anyone who will call it that will help you round people up or look the other way.

"It is a politic of socialism-for-me and scarcity-for-thee: chasing government contracts while simultaneously compromising the government’s ability to pay its bills." Tressie is so so good--Democrats need to name this grift as succinctly as she has. Gift article: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/o...

Editorial Manager: when you "build the PDF for approval" and have to hover over BUT NOT CLICK "action links" to view and approve said PDF, the option that immediately appears where your pointer is should not return you to editing said submission. #IYKYK

If the cuts to NIH indirects, how much will they lose? Texas — $310,282,120 Ohio — $171,355,609 Tennessee — $133,514,022 Missouri — $131,590,159 Florida — $123,982,436 Indiana — $68,925,255 Alabama — $46,642,500 Utah — $45,974,847 Iowa — $36,986,835 Source: www.forbes.com/sites/michae...

Holy crap everyone @iwashyna.bsky.social on @cnn.com talking about changes to science funding policy www.cnn.com/2025/02/10/h...

Just got the dreaded email. University of Iowa is halting all NIH grant submissions. Losing a generation of scientists here will send the state backwards. What a travesty.

Pay attention to the word “research institutions” in that tweet. Because if you think our IDCs were high, you should know companies also get NIH funding and contracts, and they haven’t been subject to indirect rate limits on things like “administrative costs” that universities have. 1/2

Some NIH study sections for tomorrow have just been canceled. Who knows which of these grants would have led to the next life-saving invention. Who knows which scientists will throw in the towel bc of funding delays. Who can even begin to measure the impact of these reckless cancellations.😕🩺🧪🛟

The emerging collaborations between AFGE, SEIU, AFT, and UAW to fight the regime points towards a broader strategy in the fight against fascism, and what I still think is our best shot at building something like the 20c movement for industrial democracy: power at the point of reproduction.

Our Litigation Tracker is now souped up with interactive Table. ⬇️ Now tracking 23 cases and expecting more to drop soon. Litigation Tracker: Legal Challenges to Trump Administration Actions www.justsecurity.org/107087/track...

Well thank goodness a bunch of us won’t have jobs to drive to since your colleagues are dismantling the federal government and tanking the economy, JFC.

🚨🚨🚨 Attention researchers, physicians, and other care providers: Protect Democracy (a wonderful org whose mission is in their name) has rolled out a new website where we can share our stories on how the freeze on federal funding has affected us. Go here and add your voice: fedfreeze.org

I hate that it's gotten this far, but if countries want to counter a US-imposed trade war, they should make Elon Musk's companies a focus of their retaliation. Those business interests have effectively merged with the US executive branch, and decision-makers value them more than the American people.

This is the crux of it. Trump’s Title IX rule opens the door to give rapists benefits. It’s not just that they aren’t punished. They’re having better educational experiences than all non-violent students. And that’s a way of encouraging violence against women.

Now is a time we need to support each other in academia across disciplines, across universities: Those in fields not under attack, need to help those who are under attack Senior faculty need to support junior faculty Privileged faculty need to support marginalized faculty #academicsky

Reminder that elite conflict, elite blunders, and changing public opinion often topple authoritarian regimes 👇🏼

It’s February 1st, the start of Black History Month. Black history still exists and you can learn about and celebrate it whenever you want. I suggest you do some of that this month. Fuck any noise that tells you otherwise.

Dear medical societies and organizations, I know you don’t want to be political. But it’s not up to you. One party is attacking the very core of your existence. 1/4

Broke: The Left/Right political split. Woke: The Corrupt/Anti-Corruption Political Split Bespoke: Ragtag bands of former FBI agents, military brass, black bloc anarchists, wine-moms, and former neo-con pundits forming counter-revolutionary cells.

it's not hyperbolic to say we're witnessing a coup.

“You guys! He talked to other people like they too deserve basic dignity! How humane of him! What a guy!”

They hate public sector workers because they can’t exploit them. Slash, burn, and then privatize. Privatizing government services allows them to profit.

This will include basically all maternal health research… not that this administration cares about pregnant people.
