Sometimes I wonder “why am I so tired” and then I realize I wrote this 8 years ago

The one part of Starmer being completely ghoulish and opportunistic in every single issue ever is that it serves as a lesson for everyone else who wants to try it: it doesn't work. He's *outrageously* unpopular. The problem with popularism is that eventually you run out of median voters

Both Saints and Cardinals looking to trade up

Yall wanna hear something extremely embarrassing? Before Trump’s election, a bunch of academics who lumbered rightward after being criticized by the left (Pinker, Dawkins, Krauss) wrote essays for a book that is coming out in July about the threats to academia from the left. YALL, THE TITLE!!

Not only is this bizarre brain rotted nonsense, but as usual with the women who talk like this, I’m left to wonder…do any of them actually LIKE being women? Do they know they don’t have to be women?

young men don’t need a “left Joe Rogan” they need sports betting regulation

1/Hi all. Yes, I’ve seen the document that may be a draft executive order reorganizing the State Department. No, I’m not certain it’s what will reach the president’s desk — if he even chooses to do this through an EO.

justices roberts, gorsuch, coney barrett, kavanaugh, jackson, sotomayor, and kagan to the White House: u up?

BREAKING: SCOTUS orders the government not to remove from the country, for the time being, any of the individuals slated for possible deportation to El Salvador. The vote is apparently 7-2, with Justices Thomas and Alito in dissent

They are absolutely trolling us now. A conference for 200 people! Or one tenth the attendance of Las Vegas Fur Con, which notably does not get a trend piece in every major publication. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/s...

They’re out over their skis

Anyway, I wrote about the ways that she’s already breaking the division that she only just took over running last week

The second camp comes across as very scared and simultaneously narcissistic. Not everything is about you, babe!! Not all of the GOP’s moves are clever triangulation traps!

NEWS: In Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case, DOJ is asking Judge Paula Xinis to stay the order the U.S. Supreme Court already affirmed as to the part that remains in effect — i.e., "facilitate" his return — and is asking the Fourth Circuit to stay and/or vacate the district court orders.

Remember this isn't even the guy that the Supreme Court is insisting be brought back. This is ANOTHER guy picked up and shipped to the gulag for no reason.

What’s wild is most of those men espousing this would be entirely broken in a manufacturing job “Oh yeah but I’m really smart so I’d be the foreman at the plant” foh nobody likes you, so enjoy your underpaid labor

This frame is a mistake. Democracy is a more efficient system than authoritarianism. They solve problems better than others, have stronger economic and health outcomes growth and fewer financial crises. Authoritarians look decisive because they miss problems and have to do big things to fix them.

New from me: I wrote about that wildly ahistorical interview that JD Vance gave. Come for “Europe could have stopped the Iraq War,” stay for “actually the Suez Crisis was Good”

Oh my god you want me to find "evidence" before putting someone in jail? Every time?? Do you have any idea how long that would take

Xinis says she's going to force multiple Trump administration officials to sit for depositions over the next 7 days to confirm whether they're complying with the Supreme Court.

I'm sorry, WHAT? Is Secretary of State Marco Rubio even engaged enough with any Middle East peace process to know whether stopping some speech in the US will magically produce peace? Because it sure seems like this is a pretext for more gleeful deportation theater. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/n...

“We are going to deport Italians with tattoos of tribal symbols or a family member’s name on suspicion of ties to The Mafia” would be just as credible, which is to say not at all

New from me: Many of Trump's second term policies thrive on ambiguity, using a lack of clarity to prompt fear and encourage people to comply in advance That's very much not the case with tariffs, where the confusion is very much not the point

Harvard is very rich and they aren't the only institution pushing back against trump. Michigan State has been pushing back a lot but they aren't "fancy" so they get less attention.

While there is a lot to say about this image, the thing that stands out to me the most - what IMO makes genAI a specifically right wing phenomenon - is the craving for approval. It is not enough to be able to generate robot lingerie warrior lady. They NEED to also be praised for doing it.

SCOOP: The Social Security Administration (SSA) will be shifting its public communication exclusively to X, sources tell WIRED. This comes as agency plans to cut its regional office workforce by roughly 90 percent.

Hours ago, @politico.com revealed that DOGE is working with DHS on automating mass deportation efforts — likely explaining why many US citizens, green card holders, and even a Canadian (in Canada) got threatening emails last night terminating “your parole” and telling them to leave the US in 7 days.

i am going to need emmys for everyone involved with “dying for sex” now please and thank you

This is exactly the position the DOJ was in last week with Judge Boasberg — ordered to produce officials who can answer the court when the lawyer can’t. CJ Roberts bought one measly week by throwing two federal judges under the bus.

it is pretty insane that anyone, even that guy, could watch Office Space and be like "im one of the downsizing consultants, the cool heroes of the movie"

Cult of personality watch. These are not the habits of a democratic movement.

NEWS: The House adopts the Senate budget resolution 216-214 Rep Thomas Massie & Rep Victoria Spartz are the only NO votes They still have a VERY long way to go before funding President Trump’s immigration / tax agenda, but a big step by the House this morning

The biggest difference between 2008 and now imho is that all the tech middle man services didn't exist so a lot of survival shit was cheaper. Apps made restaurant food prices balloon imho

As straightforward a 5th Amendment due process clause (“nor shall any person …. be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;”) issue as anyone could imagine.

Since tariffs, I noticed a surprising trend: elite Trump supporters saying they might have made a mistake. So I asked them what they were thinking, both in November and today. One big takeaway: they thought Elon was actually competent. That error proved catastrophic. www.vox.com/on-the-right...

wonder why this line has been stuck in my head for days

the professional gamblers are really sure this time that there’s a cunning strategy at work in the tariffs, a cunning ploy that will surely pay off for them in the end

tires & brakes fixed

if you want to bring back the prosperity* and security of mid-century american life then you need high rates of unionization, a generous social insurance state, and widespread, freely available education. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

“But we don’t have the money” they say about housing, health care, and education.
