It’s a lovely place full of interesting characters and all the booksellers are really helpful. And you can actually touch the old books unlike in museums and National Trust houses.

Let’s have an equivalent story from the male side: How I realised I was taking my wife for granted until talking to 3 divorced blokes, I realised I didn’t want to end up divorced, broke & alone? Now I do half the chores, don’t critique her dishwasher loading & tell her each morning she is wonderful.

I learned somewhere that this is because the Normans often took local brides. Those women taught their children the language, so it survived. But it doesn’t mean they didn’t integrate (loads of posh English surnames show French roots).

That can happen with satnav. A friend found a family driving around Alton looking for the amusement park, Alton Towers, which is 200 miles north of the town Alton.

My nephew wouldn’t read fiction but give him a book on trains or bridges and he was riveted. Sometimes fiction-lovers forget non-fic is an option too.

Neither of my parents read anything other than the newspaper. But at the airport one time, to shut us up on the flight, they bought us an Enid Blyton each. Cue 3 avid readers. My own kids loved Harry Potter but not Blyton and that set their reading paths. Maybe it’s the right book not the parents.

I describe myself as British/Asian as that is the defined category on every form. If the form just had British, I’d tick that. The separateness is imposed by the categorisation. If you’d asked teen me my nationality, I’d have said British.

Anybody here leased a car? I have. That’s a version of PFI. PFI is not inherently bad. Whether it works well for you or not is all in the contract terms. In the past, they were badly negotiated. The focus should be one making sure they work better now.

Not sure if this helps because I’m not an urban fantasy reader but I’m price insensitive between 4.99-2.99. I wouldn’t choose a book specifically because it’s cheaper by a couple of quid. But I am a sucker for a 0.99 promo.

If only it were hoarded gold. Much of wealth today is illusory.

To be fair, I’ve been so impressed by the willingness of other indie authors to help and advise. Even successful 6+ figure ones will take the time to answer questions. Every time I venture into it, I’m amazed at how welcoming everyone is.

The global birth rate has been declining for years. The population growth is not those being born but those not dying. In the developed world people are living 20-30years longer than they did a century ago. This constrains resources, especially housing. We need equitable ways of living together.

Definitely words on the T-shirts saying ‘MARRY’ on one and ‘US’ on the other. I’ve gone gooey inside already.

We’ve still got sewage on our beaches & in our rivers, illegal meat entering our food chain, record levels of fraud & lies regularly being promoted in our news. So, of course, now is the time to reduce regulation and its enforcement!?
