Not on the weekend, but I was in D.C. for the inauguration. The only non-Trump supporters we encountered were Canadian and UK reporters. I held a sign reading ‘No Country for Small Hands’ as the motorcade passed. A small act of protest but worth it for me.

I absolutely love Rivka Galchen’s “Everyone Knows Your Mother Is A Witch”. It depicts life in the 1600s in southern Germany through the eyes of Johannes Kepler’s mother and her neighbor when she was put on trial for being a witch. It’s fascinating and damn well written.

I wouldn’t even say it’s Upton’s best the pacing is very uneven and all the characters feel archetypal - that said it is still worth the read simply for the perspective. While not prescient, knowing it was written in 1935 keeps it interesting.

“Everyone Knows Your Mothers a Witch” is fantastic. It depicts life in the 1600s in southern Germany through the eyes of Johannes Kepler’s mother and her neighbor when she was put on trial for being a witch.
