Enthusiasm about integrating EMA methods into clinical practice is widespread, but there is little to no evidence that it is worth the effort. This article comments on five "pleasing myths" on this matter.

🤮

Mentalization-based treatment for antisocial personality disorder in a forensic population shows promising results in this RCT: less clinician-rated aggression in the treatment group.

Purple hat therapy: "an intervention that combines evidence-based treatment components with a new component of questionable scientific plausibility". ( From a chapter by @everosenfeldphd.bsky.social and Carmen McLean)

New paper! 📣 How do negative effects influence different depression psychotherapies? Treatments didn't differ in neg. effects but differed in their association between neg. effects & depression improvement. Adored working with @jpkhl.bsky.social & team! www.tandfonline.com/eprint/ISTFZ...

Clinically, this suggests that we should not only look at the clinical outcome but also at the negative effects when determining the success of a psychotherapy.

No pain, no gain? Nope. Negative effects can even adversely impact the outcome of psychotherapy. But that might not be equally true for all psychotherapies.

What makes a good ESM item? We asked 42 ESM/EMA experts this question in a Delphi study, and the result is the ESM-Q: A consensus-based quality assessment tool for ESM items. Now accepted at #psynomBRM. Updated preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps... Thread below.

New study: 58% of studies #preregistered on #OSF before Nov 2017 have been conducted but not publicly shared. This is one of my recurrent nightmares. To see it black on white by an expert @hildabast.bsky.social who knows so well what she is talking about is absolutely terrifying. The next stop clinicaltrials.gov, as Hilda anticipates. absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2025/02/14/w...

„Berta! You Need To Read This!“

The good news from this study is that clinical PhD students say they like learning about open science and want more of it. The bad news is many programs are failing to incorporate it in their various teaching streams.

Important new paper for clinical psychology! Please amplify. Clinical science needs open science.

Write every day for 1 hour. If you miss a writing day add 1 hour to the next. It’s incredible! Tomorrow I’m writing for 7 years.

Framing public funding of science as some kind of luxury paid for by working people's taxes is one of the greatest and most dangerous publicity stunts of the right.

A personal note about academic life, especially for early-career scientists: I recently won an important award at my university. And I shared a lot about it. But here's what you don't see: the numerous awards I wasn't selected for, despite being nominated +
