Andrew Tate has been accused of rape and human trafficking in the UK. An attempt by the Trump administration to stand in the way of Britain's justice system would be deeply wrong. The Tate brothers must face justice here in the UK.

Will be interesting to see how a state that shreds its own capacity to collect taxes can sustain global power status

Re-writing history is a tool of political fraudsters everywhere. Trump is its keenest proponent. The birth of the European Community, later the EU, was actually actively supported by the US. The joint, transatlantic goal was to secure peace on the Continent. It was a specific vision of FDR.

So, Trump forcibly deports hundreds of immigrants who have no criminal record and welcomes in Andrew Tate - a toxic misogynist on trial for rape, child-trafficking and money-laundering. Sums up what this repulsive US regime is all about. Moral depravity and money. Nothing else. Nothing good.

There are extradition arrangements between the US and the UK and EU Member States, but who knows if Trump's DoJ would act on one if it came to that. Wonder what the quid pro quo was for the Romanian government here.

This week's column asks a question that should be in everyone's minds, as Trump reshapes the world's alliances: How, given that our defence and security capacities are completely infiltrated by the US state, do we defend ourselves if the US becomes our opponent? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Awful news, but sadly not unexpected. 2024 was the first year in which I didn't see a single Red-tailed #bumblebee queen or worker...

European leaders now believe Trump’s strategy is to dismantle the EU completely, not just rival it. (NYT)

Pritzker: "We're talking about the death of a constitutional republic. That's what happened in Germany in 1933, 1934. And we're seeing today that we've got an administration in Washington that's ignoring court orders."

Have read a lot of powerful analysis on the harm Trump is doing to Europe with recent moves, not enough on the self-harm his foreign policy is bringing on the US.

These people are all crazy . It’s like someone in MAGA land got a copy of the Russian and Chinese intelligence services covert action plan to destroy America and they’re implementing it . www.ft.com/content/2dfa...

I was electrocuted, beaten, stabbed in the leg and starved after being captured while defending my home and family in Mariupol. We held back Putin’s invasion for several weeks while Russia slaughtered over 25,000 predominantly Russian speaking Ukrainians including women and children.

This is a capitulation, not a negotiation

That’s how you write a headline, people.

Still internalising the Vance Munich speech. A sitting Vice President goes to Europe, barely says a word about the despotic murderous regime which has invaded its neighbour, and instead lectures his allies about freedom of speech. It’d be funny if it weren’t so serious.

Beautifully done by Private Eye...

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Does America need Europe? As a market? Yes" "But as an ally? I don't know" "For the answer to be yes, Europe needs a single voice, not a dozen different ones" "We must build the closest possible relationship with America, but as Europeans, not just as separate nations"

1. A common mistake is to look for ideological consistency on the far right, and to become confused when some of the things it claims to stand for sound positive and even progressive. Here’s a thread on how to understand this. 🧵

“The real “threat from within” comes from those fake British patriots loudly cheering on attacks on our own country by a hostile foreign power” @adambienkov.bsky.social 👏 www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/the-collab...

Presented without comment. www.ft.com/content/a7c9...

He's right. The only people who don't want a 'European Army' are Mr Vladimir Putin and his apologists and useful idiots. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Of all the daft 'opinions' that Brexiters could never explain or justify, opposition to a mooted European army was among the stupidest. Inevitably, Farage the Putin fanboy was the loudest heckler. Armies that you are actually *in* rarely turn out to be opposed to your interests...

All these discussions of peace, and diplomacy, and Trump and Putin, and hardly a reference to war crimes, Bucha, Mariupol, Irpen, Kramatorsk, Kherson, and more places than I can list here. No discussion of: Russian targeting of civilians, attacks on hospitals, schools, universities 1/2

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

UK being at the Weimar + meeting and signing this shows we can play a constructive role in Europe and that Europe is better when we do. A glimmer of hope for Ukraine? And for the EU-UK reset?

🔥 Please reshare this important statement on Ukraine from the governments of Germany, France, UK, Poland, Italy and Spain. Europe stands with Ukraine. 🇪🇺 🇺🇦

UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland & Spain statement: “we are ready to enhance support for Ukraine and committed themselves to the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity” Trump may want to be Neville Chamberlain but we should not let him www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

‘You are displaying a level of historical ignorance that is treacherous.’ @mrjamesob.bsky.social responds to those who think Donald Trump’s threat to democracy is being exaggerated.

I recall going to an event just before the Referendum and speaking with two (Tory), Brexit supporting women attending the event…who, whilst saying that security and defence was a concern, we could rely on NATO with America for our defences. Wonder what they think now?

I asked a Ukrainian commander what he thought about Trump's comments and conversation with Putin. What he said is below - "I see that democrats do nothing..."

Political donations are institutionalized bribery. Donors get access to policymakers, shape laws, tax privileges, lax regulations, govt contracts/subsidies, honours, power. Banning political donations is a necessary step for free and fair elections and democracy leftfootforward.org/2025/01/how-...

It would have been better IMO if Bevan had introduced a different model for providing free healthcare in the UK, precisely because the NHS model does put it all on tax rises, but in 2024, whether you introduce a social insurance model or just by putting up taxes, you are still making ppl pay more.

EXCL: Trump’s team has told European officials the incoming US president will demand Nato states increase defence spending to 5% of GDP (but would settle for 3.5%), and plans to continue supplying military aid to Ukraine Scoop from me, Henry Foy & Felicia Schwarz in FT 👇 www.ft.com/content/35f4...

Lord Toby Young? I'm not sure that replacing hereditary title idiots with commoner idiots is a great step forward. Particularly that idiot.

i recall a time when using a private email server was the single greatest scandal in american history. i guess today’s it’s just tuesday www.politico.com/news/2024/12...

💨 Air pollution in Paris 🇫🇷 👇👇 2007 🔴- today 🟢 Parisians 🇫🇷 are reaping the fruits for a decade of expansion of public transport 🚇, bicycle 🚲 infrastructure, traffic demand management and parking policies. Well done, Paris @annehidalgo.bsky.social 👏👏

“All donations that originate from abroad, no matter who is the final donor, should be banned. Only UK citizens should be allowed to donate to British political organisations. This would, by necessity mean no donations from private companies; PLCs, LTDs, whatever.”

Don't talk up Reform as if it represents some ignored voice of the working class. It doesn't. It represents a rebranded far right that is bidding for American billionaire cash so it can replace the Tory party. That's all.

If the government shuts down Saturday, the richest man in the world will be largely to blame. You may not get access to services you depend on just before the holidays because an unelected billionaire shadow president wanted it that way. If this isn’t oligarchy, I don’t know what is.
