What's the equivalent of "green washing" for the public image of billionaires?

Just a random reminder that trickle-down economics was invented by conservatives in the 1980s to justify massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. It’s been nothing short of a disaster.

A priest, a rabbit and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender asks the rabbit "what'll ya have?" The rabbit says "I dunno. I'm only here because of autocorrect." 🤣🤣

I wonder if you can guess, without reading the headlines, which TWO people in this picture just got fired from the Joint Chiefs. Go ahead, take a wild guess. Pick two.

Good riddance.

Definition: the difference between watching an incredibly inspiring video about a new technology and the realisation that your main project is a BBOM that can't be refactored that way.

resonates.

The most unpatriotic members of any society are the far right. They will always align with foreign interests against the interests of their own nations. They will always undermine national institutions and national values in pursuit of their own interests. When they pose as patriots, they lie.

Show me a game that came out when you were 12 Honestly, not sure which of these I spent more time playing 😀

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted. Yet somehow Musk isn't.

When Trump was sworn in, Elon Musk's corporations were under more than 32 investigations conducted by at least 11 federal agencies. Most of the cases are now closed or likely to be closed soon, and the federal agencies are being defanged by DOGE. Funny how that works, huh?

There is a rumour going around that I have found God. I think this is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist. TERRY PRATCHETT

This nonsense is now leaking outside the US. My Google Maps in South Africa is showing two names for the #gulfofmexico - this is the dumbest timeline.

YES!

I hate the way musk thinks he’s a techie. Expert in computers and all this nonsense. He thinks a system in place for decades is missing a checkbox and he’s made some amazing discovery. Embarrassing.

"The creeping menace of trans athletes". They've been crying about this for 10 years and in that time, out of 530,000 NCAA athletes in the US, there are currently under 10 that are trans, make and female. You can tell they have nothing as they are using Lia Thomas. That's all they have.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has documented at least 110 Palestinians killed by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement last month. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/078jbu

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

"In many Jewish communities around in the United States today, you get in more trouble for challenging the legitimacy of the state of Israel than for questioning the authority of the Torah." –@peterbeinart.bsky.social

Isn’t it depressing when even the guardian continues to launder Musk’s reputation and perpetuate the polymath myth. In no way did Elon Musk put a chip in this man’s brain.

the joke is on all my friends who refused to sign up for twitter back in 2007. we live inside twitter now

TIL about Lake Abraham in Canada where naturally occurring methane slowly leaking into the lake can freeze into beautiful shapes as the water freezes.

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

Queueing has the same feeling as banana. One of my favourite quotes from a Discworld novel comes from "Witches Abroad" (Terry Pratchett, 1991) "Nanny Ogg knew how to start spelling 'banana', but didn't know how you stopped".

Nah the printer trying to get me a call from HR

None of these bills ever seek to stop the theft done to artists or protect our data from being sold by big tech, it's always just about "when China does it, it's evil!"

Spider-Man by Maxi Dall'o

An old analogy, and a good one. But now updated to the current CEO/worker pay gap.

I love this. Reminds me of Alex Ross' art on Marvels. The real world feel of the characters is really drawing me into the scene.

in case your company uses Google Workspace and is despairing at how Gemini A.I. is getting pushed into everything—fear not! Slate's indefatigable IT chief embarked on a successful journey to get it removed from our end and wrote a detailed guide for the curious: slate.com/technology/2...

This one's fun. My answer in the replies.

computers are a completely normal field where there are databases built on descendants of PICK OS, a database made in the 60s to organize parts for a helicopter that never existed, for a system called Generalized Information Retrieval Language System (GIRLS), as created by a guy named Dick Pick.
